Welcome back, RotoBallers, to my PGA DFS Pivots for DraftKings! This week, the PGA event is The Charles Schwab Challenge.
Congratulations to Justin Thomas for winning The PGA Championship. It was a tough test all week for the golfers and Thomas was well deserving to win. The tour now moves back to Texas for The Charles Schwab Challenge.
The week after a major always presents a few challenges. Assessing golfer's motivation and fitness is a difficult task and it may be best to try to consider those factors much. Also, Justin Thomas's projected ownership is surprisingly lower than normal. This could be due that many like to fade a golfer that has won the week before.
Charles Schwab Challenge - DFS Lineup Pivots
Sam Burns $9,700 – Sam Burns is currently projected to be one of the lowest golfers in his price range. After his win at The Valspar in April, Burns had back-to-back missed cuts. He found some form at The PGA Championship where he finished in 20th place. Burns gained 4.1 strokes on approach and 3.2 tee-to-green. Burns also does not have good course history at this event, which is likely helping keep his ownership low. His best finish was 31st place in 2019. Burns is a much better golfer now and I expect him to play much better this week. At low ownership, Burns could be a key pivot option if he continues to improve on the form he showed last week.
Jason Kokrak $8,200- I was surprised to see Jason Kokrak’s projected ownership. He is priced near highly owned golfers such as Kevin Na and Chris Kirk. Kokrak has excellent course history at this event. He won this event last year and in 2020 he finished third. Kokrak has not played all that well lately. This is likely a contributor to his projected ownership. However, he has gained strokes total in his last eight of nine events. He returns to a comfortable venue and could provide some leverage.

Patrick Reed $7,400- Patrick Reed has not played well this year. His best finish was a 15th in the small field at Kapalua to start the year. Reed, who has a top 10 at this event, showed signs of life last week at The PGA Championship. He gained 5 strokes tee-to-green and 5.2 on approach. It was the first time since the 3M Open last year that Reed gained substantial strokes on approach. It also ended 14 events in a row where he lost strokes tee-to-green. At low salary and ownership, I the idea of buying Reed with the hope his form continues.
Stewart Cink $7,100- Stewart Cink has now recorded back to back weeks where he has gained strokes tee-to-green, off-the-tee, and on approach. Cink also has decent course history, in 2017 he finished in 10th place at this event. He had an impressive showing last week at The PGA Championship. Cink gained 6.2 strokes tee-to-green and 2.1 on approach. If Cink’s form continues he may be in the mix again this week.
J.T. Poston $6,600- J.T. Poston has had some impressive ball-striking performances this spring. At The Wells Fargo, Poston gained 8.7 strokes tee-to-green. Two tournaments before, he gained 7.9 tee-to-green en route to a third-place finish in Hilton Head. Poston also has decent history at this event. In 2020 he finished in 10th place. That week he gained 5.1 strokes tee-to-green. If needing some salary relief, Poston could be a good option.
