RotoBaller PGA Expert Roundtable

RBC Heritage

The Expert Roundtable article is an attempt to get you inside the minds of our PGA DFS staff for every tournament.

Our four top golf writers - Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Josh Bennett, and Tommy Bell - will answer the same set of questions each week to give you an idea of how they are viewing the PGA DFS slate. Let's tee it up for the Charles Schwab Challenge!

Who is your favorite DFS value play?

Joe Nicely: Ian Poulter - $7,600

Spencer Aguiar: Matthew NeSmith $6,600

Josh Bennett: Ian Poulter - 7,600

Tommy Bell: Viktor Hovland - $7,600

Who is your favorite DFS “high priced” play?

Joe Nicely: Bryson DeChambeau - $10,700

Spencer Aguiar: Jon Rahm $10,500

Josh Bennett: Justin Thomas - 10,900

Tommy Bell: Justin Thomas - $10,900

Who is your top GPP play?

Joe Nicely: Kevin Kisner - $7,700

Spencer Aguiar: Tyrrell Hatton $8,000

Josh Bennett: Shane Lowry - 7,800

Tommy Bell: Hideki Matsuyama - $9,500

Who is your top Cash-Game play?

Joe Nicely: Matt Kuchar - $8,300

Spencer Aguiar: Webb Simpson $9,000

Josh Bennett: Matt Kuchar - 8,300

Tommy Bell: Matt Kuchar - $8,300

Which popular golfer will you be “fading”?

Joe Nicely: Gary Woodland - $8,400

Spencer Aguiar: Collin Morikawa $10,000 - GPP solely and no other reason than price. Sixth-highest priced player and don’t think he produces a top-10 enough to warrant his price tag.

Josh Bennett: Dustin Johnson - 8,500

Tommy Bell: Bryson DeChambeau *Gulp* - $10,700

What stands out as the most important stat for this golf course?

Joe Nicely: SG: Approach, GIR’s Gained

Spencer Aguiar: GIR, SG: Approach, Proximity from 150-200 Yards

Josh Bennett: Scrambling

Tommy Bell: SG: Off the Tee, SG: Approach

Who is your favorite DFS “dart throw”?

Joe Nicely: Bud Cauley ($7,200) & Talor Gooch ($7,000)

Spencer Aguiar: Jason Day ($7,600)

Josh Bennett: Matthew NeSmith - 6,600

Tommy Bell: Emiliano Grillo - $6,800

What is your favorite bet of the week? (Any type)

Joe Nicely: Ian Poulter Top 10, Kuch & Kiz Outrights

Spencer Aguiar: Matthew NeSmith T20 (8/1)

Josh Bennett: Ian Poulter top 10 (+700)

Tommy Bell: Justin Rose to win outright (28/1)

Make a “bold prediction” for this week:

Joe Nicely: Jon Rahm misses his second straight cut

Spencer Aguiar: Bernhard Langer returns value with a made cut at $6,100.

Josh Bennett: Morikawa misses his first cut

Tommy Bell: Justin Thomas will be the only $10k golfer to land a Top 5 finish

Who is your favorite overall DFS golfer and why?

Joe Nicely: I really like what we can get in the mid-$7k range with Kisner & Poulter.

Spencer Aguiar: Webb Simpson ($9,000) - Discounted price because of his missed cut at Colonial and might be the safest play on the board. Not in love with his ownership projection, but I’m not sure how you start a cash-game build without him.

Josh Bennett: Webb Simpson. Maybe he shook off a little rust last week, this week fits him perfectly and has a good price. Great ball striker, good short game and has been a good putter. Elite player at a pretty good discount after his MC

Tommy Bell: Justin Thomas. Game looked so sharp last week, but the putter let him down on Sunday. He’s the best player in the world, IMO, and he’s trending in the right direction. Can club down with the best of them, and around-the-green game is awesome when needed.

What is your optimal DFS lineup building strategy?

Joe Nicely: Balanced, due to strength of the mid-$7k range.

Spencer Aguiar: I don’t mind a more aggressive stance this week. A lot of value to be had between the $6,700 to $7,500 range, which opens up more of a star/scrub approach.

Josh Bennett: keep it balanced. Tons of elite guys you can plug in that middle range. This field is stacked, play as many of the elite guys as possible, they usually rise to the top in these fields

Tommy Bell: JT, another $9K or $8k golfer, then high ceiling fillers in the $7k-ish range

Who is your pick to win the tournament?

Joe Nicely: Matt Kuchar

Spencer Aguiar: Jon Rahm

Josh Bennett: Webb Simpson

Tommy Bell: Justin Thomas
