Adalberto Mondesi Nearing Return to Action

4 years agoKansas City Royals star shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (shoulder) is finally getting close to making his spring debut. Following surgery this fall to repair his shoulder after it was violently dislocated last season, Mondesi has been doing some light drills with the team so far. Manager Mike Matheny told reporters that he's already pushing to get back out there though, and while no official date is set yet, Matheny agreed that his debut could come this week. Mondesi stole 43 bases last year in just 102 games, so if he can stay healthy all year, he'll likely lead the league in thefts. The real question will be whether the surgical repair will sap any of his power at the plate. If it doesn't, then Mondesi could easily end up being a top-20 player this year.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
