Gary Payton II Headed To Portland On Three-Year Deal

2 years agoFree-agent guard Gary Payton II has signed a three-year, $28 million deal with the Portland Trail Blazers. The 29-year-old played a key role in the Golden State Warriors run to an NBA championship last year. Known for his defensive prowess, Payton averaged 1.4 steals per game last season, despite only playing 17.6 minutes per contest. The Blazers will be Payton's fifth NBA franchise as he enters his seventh year in the league. He'll have a decent amount of competition for playing time in Portland, as the team has a number of guards/wings such as Josh Hart, Nassir Little, Keon Johnson and Shaedon Sharpe.
