5 years agoSeattle Mariners rookie starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi will make an abbreviated start on Friday against the Rangers, with pitching prospect Justus Sheffield coming in after him. Kikuchi will make an abbreviated start around once a month as part of the team's plans to limit his total innings to keep him healthy all year. The left-hander will likely throw only one inning against Texas, so you won't want to use him in fantasy on Friday. Kikuchi is 1-1 with a 4.68 ERA while striking out 23 and walking eight in 32 2/3 innings. Sheffield, acquired in the offseason trade that involved James Paxton, will be making his Seattle debut. The team's top prospect and No. 40 overall, Sheffield has struggled a bit with Triple-A Tacoma so far this year and has a 3.93 ERA in three starts and a relief outing. He has nice long-term upside in Seattle's rotation, but fantasy owners will want to avoid him for his relief appearance this Friday.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
