LeBron James agreed to a two-year, $97.1 million extension with the team on Wednesday. The deal, which includes a player option for the 2024-25 campaign and a 15% trade kicker, makes him the highest-earning player in league history. Despite his advanced NBA age, the 37-year-old is still nearly as potent as ever. He finished last season by averaging 30.3 points while adding 8.2 boards, 6.2 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.1 blocks. Although there's a good chance James will get his fair share of rest this year, resulting in missed games, he certainly has the potential to finish as a top-10 fantasy option in standard-scoring leagues. However, his lifetime 34.6% shooting from deep drops him a bit lower in category formats.

LeBron James had contract-extension talks Thursday, per Rich Paul, the CEO of Klutch Sports Group. The uniqueness of James' looming free agency is multifold; due to the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, the 18-time All-Star is capped to signing a two-year extension, but the looming possibility of his son, Bronny, entering the NBA may give him a desire to keep his options open. While the 2022-23 season was a flop for L.A., James looked resurgent, averaging 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game, all while shooting 52.4 percent overall. While injuries have slowed James during his Lakers tenure, his otherworldly talent continues to be on display.

Russell Westbrook connected on a phone conversation. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, during the call the three veterans expressed their commitment to each other and to the team. The Lakers were the biggest disappointment in the league last year as they missed the playoffs after going 33-49. Westbrook has been the center of numerous trade rumors this summer and while he could potentially still be moved, it seems as if he's content with his teammates and his team at least for now.
