2 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals optioned left-hander Matthew Liberatore to Triple-A on Wednesday. Right-hander Drew VerHagen (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Liberatore has struggled in his first exposure to the majors this year. Over seven games (six starts), he has pitched to a 5.33 ERA and 1.74 WHIP while maintaining a 1.6 K/BB ratio. He gave up three earned runs while pitching 2 1/3 innings out of the bullpen in his most recent appearance against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. Meanwhile, VerHagen has had a rough year out of the pen for the team, posting a 6.30 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP over 20 innings. He was on the injured list for about three weeks due to a right shoulder impingement.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
