David Robertson Notches 20th Save Of Season Tuesday
2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher David Robertson picked up his 20th save of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Marlins. The veteran came in to shut things out with a one-run lead and did just that, delivering a 1-2-3 ninth inning with no strikeouts. Robertson has had a resurgent season with the Cubs and Phillies, converting 20 of 27 save opportunities with a 2.34 ERA, an 11.71 K/9 rate, and a 4.37 BB/9 rate. The walks have been an issue, but Robertson has been a solid source of saves for fantasy managers so far this season and should continue to be down the stretch.Source: MLB.com
Felix Bautista Earns 13th Save Of Season Tuesday
2 years agoBaltimore Orioles closer Felix Bautista picked up his 13th save of the season in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Nationals. Bautista entered to pitch the ninth inning up by one. He allowed a leadoff walk and got the first two outs on a strikeout and flyout. The tying run advanced to second on a stolen base, but Bautista ended things there with another strikeout. It was nice to see the big flamethrower back for the O's, as he had missed several games with arm fatigue. Bautista has emerged as a solid fantasy closer, converting all but one save opportunity with a 1.60 ERA and an 11.90 K/9 rate. He should continue to be a strong fantasy option down the stretch as the O's compete for a playoff spot.Source: MLB.com
Jacob deGrom Strikes Out 10, Takes Loss Tuesday
2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom pitched well but took the loss in Tuesday's 4-1 game against the Cubs. deGrom pitched 6 innings, allowing three runs on four hits (including a solo home run) and no walks with 10 strikeouts. The veteran has been exactly what fantasy managers had hoped for since his return from the injured list, compiling an excellent 2.01 ERA with a 13.32 K/9 rate in eight starts. His next start should be a great matchup at home against the Pirates.Source: MLB.com
Jordan Kyrou Signs Eight-Year Extension With Blues
2 years agoSt. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou has signed an eight-year, $65 million contract with the team on Tuesday. The deal has an average annual value of $8.125 million and it will begin in 2023-24 and run through the 2030-31 NHL season, while it is the same contract teammate Robert Thomas signed earlier in the offseason. Kyrou set career-highs of 27 goals, 48 assists and 75 points through 74 games last season, including seven goals in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games. The 24-year-old will once again be one of the most valuable Blues forwards across all fantasy formats and deserves to be drafted in the early rounds of fantasy leagues this upcoming season. Jeurys Familia Designated For Assignment Tuesday
2 years agoBoston Red Sox relief pitcher Jeurys Familia was designated for assignment after Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Yankees, per Red Sox beat writer Chris Cotillo. Familia took the loss in the game, allowing three runs (two earned) on a hit and three walks in the 10th inning. The veteran struggled this season with both the Phillies and Red Sox, compiling a 6.09 ERA in 44 1/3 innings pitched. The cleared roster spot will likely go to recently-claimed infielder Yu Chang.Source: Chris Cotillo - MassLive.com
Ozzie Albies Collects Five Hits In Tuesday's Rehab Game
2 years agoAtlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies (foot) had a huge game at the plate in Tuesday's 5-4 win with Triple-A Gwinnett, going 5-for-5 with four singles, a walk-off solo home run, and three RBI. The 25-year-old has now played six rehab games at Triple-A and is hitting .348. It looks as though Albies is ready to go, so hopefully, he will be back with the Braves and fantasy managers soon. Albies slashed .244/.289/.405 with eight HR, 33 RBI, and three stolen bases before landing on the injured list. Fantasy managers should continue to look for updates on Albies' potential recall.Source: MiLB.com
Aaron Judge Homers Twice Tuesday
2 years agoNew York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge continued his climb towards history Tuesday, hitting two more home runs in a 3-for-4 day at the plate. He also was intentionally walked and scored three runs. The only blemish on the day was his third caught-stealing of the season in 19 attempts. Judge is now 20 homers ahead of Kyle Schwarber for the major-league lead in the category, and he has a 1.106 OPS with 57 long balls, 16 steals, 116 runs scored, and 123 RBI. Fantasy managers are enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime campaign from the slugger.Source: MLB.com
Triston Casas Has Homer And Steal
2 years agoBoston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas made his presence felt in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the New York Yankees, going 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run, a walk, two RBI, and a stolen base. This is his second home run and first steal for his career. With just 24 major-league at-bats under his belt, the best is certainly to come for the slugger, though fantasy managers in redraft formats don't need to pay him any mind this year. He's a must for keeper and dynasty formats, however, as he has put up a .269/.374/.485 slash line in his minor-league career.Source: MLB.com
Tyler Glasnow Throws 31 Pitches In Tuesday's Rehab Start
2 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow (elbow) threw 31 pitches in 1 1/3 innings in Tuesday's 5-4 loss with Triple-A Durham. Glasnow allowed one run on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts in his second rehab start. The Rays will likely ease Glasnow back into action, given that he is recovering from Tommy John surgery. As such, fantasy managers may not have an opportunity to start Glasnow before the end of the regular season. Either way, they should monitor his rehab outings to get a better idea of when he can be expected back.Source: MiLB.com
Carlos Correa Homers, Drives In Three
2 years agoMinnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa went deep Tuesday night, hitting his 20th home run of the season off Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic in the fifth inning of a 6-3 win. Correa also doubled and drove in three total runs in four at-bats. This is the sixth time in seven full seasons (excluding 2020) that Correa has reached the 20-homer plateau. He has an .820 OPS for the season with 62 runs scored and 57 RBI, and he's slashing a dominant .327/.405/.566 with seven home runs over his last 113 at-bats and 30 games for fantasy managers.Source: MLB.com
Gio Urshela Homers, Reaches Base Four Times
2 years agoMinnesota Twins third baseman Gio Urshela reached base in all four of his plate appearances in a 6-3 win over the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, going 3-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk. It was his 12th homer of the season and his first since August 12. Urshela now has a six-game hitting streak going with three multi-hit performances in that span. For the season, he's managed a serviceable .745 OPS with 48 runs scored, 54 RBI, and one steal. Urshela isn't a must for fantasy managers, but he's worth rostering during this hot streak.Source: MLB.com
Jose Miranda Homers, Reaches Four Times
2 years agoMinnesota Twins corner infielder Jose Miranda reached base four times Tuesday, going 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks, two RBI, and a run scored. Miranda now has 15 home runs this season. With a .796 OPS, 38 runs scored, and 63 RBI in 395 plate appearances as a rookie this season, Miranda has been a major contributor for both the Twins and fantasy managers. He has an impressive .321/.446/.528 slash line in 53 at-bats over his last 15 games and should be in lineups across all fantasy formats.Source: MLB.com
Joe Ryan Pulled After Seven No-Hit Innings
2 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Joe Ryan hadn't allowed a hit through seven innings against the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, but he was not permitted to return to the mound for the eighth inning. Ryan walked two batters and struck out nine on 106 pitches, a number which was deemed too close to his season-high of 110 to continue the no-hit bid. On the season, Ryan has a 3.83 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 133 strikeouts in 129 1/3 innings. He hasn't been the breakout fantasy option many predicted, but he's still put forth a very competent campaign.Source: MLB.com
Willy Adames Reaches Base Four Times
2 years agoMilwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames reached base four times Tuesday night, going 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, a run scored, and two RBI in an 8-4 win against the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals. Adames has a five-game hitting streak going and has driven in exactly two runs in each of his last three games. He's slashing .234/.296/.463 this season, which is a bit less impressive than his last few seasons but is still an above-average output. With 28 home runs, five steals, 75 runs scored, and 85 RBI, fantasy managers have to be pleased with his overall performance this year.Source: MLB.com
Andrew McCutchen Homers, Drives In Three
2 years agoMilwaukee Brewers outfielder Andrew McCutchen had the biggest swing in an 8-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday, hitting a two-run home run off starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery in the fifth inning. McCutchen went 2-for-5 in the game with the homer, a double, and three RBI. He now has 17 homers for the season, including three in his last six games. While he's no longer the slugger he once ways, the 35-year-old has still found a way to contribute for fantasy managers this year with 63 runs scored, 65 RBI, and eight stolen bases.Source: MLB.com
Jordan Montgomery Roughed Up Tuesday
2 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery had a rare bad outing Tuesday, getting roughed up by the Milwaukee Brewers to the tune of six runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk in five innings. He struck out six batters. This is only the second disappointing performance since coming over to the National League, as Montgomery has a 2.05 ERA in his eight starts after being traded from the New York Yankees. The loss drops his record to 8-4 for the season. Fantasy managers can still count on Montgomery as a solid floor option.Source: MLB.com
Marcus Semien Doubles Three Times
2 years agoTexas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien doubled three times Tuesday, coming around to score on each occasion in an 8-7 victory over the Oakland Athletics. It's his second consecutive three-hit game, and Semien now has a .276/.321/.504 slash line with five homers and five steals over his last 30 games. With 22 homers and 24 steals on the season, he's been able to silence any early-season doubters. Semien remains one of the premiere power-speed options in the majors, and his middle-infield eligibility boosts his fantasy value even further.Source: MLB.com
Mark Mathias Homers Twice Tuesday
2 years agoTexas Rangers infielder Mark Mathias was one of the surprise stars of Tuesday night's 8-7 victory over the Oakland Athletics, going 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, a double, four RBI, and three runs scored. Mathias has just 93 major-league at-bats to his name, but he's flashed some upside with five homers and three steals. As long as Mathias receives the semi-regular playing time he's garnered since mid-August, he'll have some value in deep leagues, though fantasy managers shouldn't expect this type of power going forward.Source: MLB.com
Adolis Garcia Has Huge Night
2 years agoTexas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia was one of several players to have huge offensive outputs in this 8-7 victory over the Oakland Athletics, going 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, two walks, three RBI, and two runs scored. He also stole a base. Garcia now has 25 homers and 24 steals on the year. Garcia has been red-hot in his last five games, with six of his seven hits in 17 at-bats going for extra-base hits. While there will be peaks and valleys to his production, the power-speed upside remains extremely valuable to fantasy managers.Source: MLB.com
Liam Hendriks Records 33rd Save
2 years agoChicago White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks was credited with his 33rd save of the season Tuesday night, sitting down all three Colorado Rockies he faced. He did not record a strikeout. Hendriks has been successful in his last five save opportunities and has only blown four chances all season. With a 3.18 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 51 innings this year, Hendriks has been somewhat less dominant than any other season since becoming a closer in 2019 for Oakland, but he's still one of the top options in fantasy baseball.Source: MLB.com
Jose Abreu Homers Tuesday
2 years agoChicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu reached base three times Tuesday night, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and two runs scored. It was Abreu's 15th home run of the season. Abreu has been a big reason for Chicago's late-season playoff push, slashing .363/.426/.434 over his past 30 games, though this is his first long ball since August 3. He's hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games and has an .843 OPS with 79 runs scored and 67 RBI for the season.Source: MLB.com
Eloy Jimenez Hits Three-Run Shot
2 years agoChicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez went deep Tuesday, knocking a three-run homer off Chad Kuhl in the first inning of a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies. It was Jimenez's 13th of the season. He went 1-for-3 with a walk in the contest. Jimenez has been outstanding since late July, and he's slashed .350/.445/.610 over his last 30 games in 117 plate appearances. He's riding a seven-game hitting streak with five multi-hit performances in that span. Fantasy managers approaching the end of the season could be riding Jimenez to championships.Source: MLB.com
Marlon Mack Signed To San Francisco Practice Squad
2 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers signed free-agent running back Marlon Mack to their practice squad on Monday. Mack was released by the Houston Texans last week and will now provide some depth for a 49ers team that lost Elijah Mitchell to injury for at least two months. Mack will start out behind Jeff Wilson Jr., Jordan Mason, and Tyrion Davis-Price, who are all on the active roster, but he could be elevated from the practice squad if there's another injury ahead of him. Mack is worth monitoring in fantasy moving forward but he can stay on waivers for now.Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter
Elijah Mitchell Placed On Injured Reserve
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) was placed on injured reserve by the team on Tuesday. Mitchell sprained his MCL during Week 1's loss to the Chicago Bears and is expected to need at least eight weeks to recover from the injury. Look for the 49ers to lean on veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. while also getting rookies Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price involved. Wilson becomes the back to roster in San Francisco while Mitchell is out.Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter
Keenan Allen Misses Tuesday's Practice
2 years agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen (hamstring) did not practice on Tuesday. Allen left his team's Week 1 game against the Las Vegas Raiders in the first half with the injury and did not return to action. Although an MRI did not show major issues with the hamstring, his missed practice on Tuesday is not a good sign for his availability for Thursday night's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Fantasy managers rostering Allen should be planning to be without their star receiver in Week 2, although he hasn't been ruled out officially. Look for Joshua Palmer and DeAndre Carter to see increased targets if Allen is out.Source: ESPN.com
Collin Sexton Declares Himself Healthy
2 years agoUtah Jazz guard Collin Sexton (knee) reported he's 100% healthy heading into training camp. The 23-year-old suffered a knee injury last season while playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, limiting him to only 11 games. Despite his health concerns over the years, he is still a solid contributor, holding career averages of 20.0 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 37.8% from deep. Sexton, who was traded to Utah in a deal for superstar Donovan Mitchell during the offseason, is the expected No. 1 contributor for a rebuilding Jazz team. With that said, fantasy managers should benefit from his services this season as long as he avoids any injuries along the way.Source: Joe Coles
Davion Mintz Signed By The Wizards
2 years agoFree-agent guard Davion Mintz agreed to a training camp deal with the Wizards. He went undrafted during the 2022 NBA Draft after averaging 9.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in his final two years in college. However, despite Mintz's collegiate accolades, he isn't expected to make the regular season roster, although a two-way deal could be in his future. Either way, he doesn't have much fantasy upside at the moment, so he's not expected to see any attention in drafts heading into the 2022-23 campaign.Source: RealGM.com
Ryan Webb Impressing In Single-A
2 years agoCleveland Guardians pitching prospect Ryan Webb is a 24-year-old southpaw who was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 draft. He has looked solid through his first season of pro ball, though he does need to work on reducing his walk rate. The Roswell, Ga., native boasts a mid-90s fastball and has a great feel for his changeup. He also has a pair of strong breaking ball offerings, with his curveball leading the way thanks to its impressive vertical drop. Webb made two outings in Single-A this past week. He combined for nine scoreless innings, allowing seven runs and three walks while earning one win. However, without a doubt, his best stat was strikeouts: Webb fanned a whopping 17 batters along the way, including 10 in his start on Wednesday. He's still a long way from reaching the majors, but there's no denying that the lefty has impressive strikeouts stuff.Source: FanGraphs
Oscar Santos Showing Improvement In Minors
2 years agoArizona Diamondbacks minor league catcher Oscar Santos hasn't done a whole lot to impress this season, hitting just .206 with a miserable 40.6 percent strikeout rate. He hasn't shown off much power, lacks speed, and has thrown out just 18.2 percent of base-stealers. The 21-year-old has been in Single-A since last September and doesn't seem primed for a promotion anytime soon. Although Santos has endured plenty of struggles, he finds himself on this list for one reason: he raked this past week. The 21-year-old appeared in six games, hitting 9-for-23 (.391) with four homers and 11 RBI. He still needs to work on his discipline drastically, but his strong series earned him California League Player of the week honors and there's reason to believe he's trending in the right direction.Source: FanGraphs
Montrezl Harrell Officially A Sixer
2 years agoFree-agent forward/center Montrezl Harrell is officially a Sixer, according to a press release from the team. The deal is worth over $5 million, and the second year of the contract is a player option. The 28-year-old has an impressive resume, posting career averages of 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds while earning the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2020. With Harrell's legal issues behind him, he'll look for a fresh start in Philly and presumably support Joel Embiid from off the bench. He may even start here and there throughout the season. Either way, Harrell should see plenty of attention from deep league fantasy managers heading into the year.Source: NBA.com
