Brooks Koepka Brings Injury Concerns To The PGA Championship
3 years agoBrooks Koepka recently withdrew from The Byron Nelson last week. The reason for the withdrawal was not disclosed. He has had his battles with injuries within the last two years. Koepka surprisingly missed the cut at The Masters last month. Koepka has an excellent major record but his injury concerns do give fantasy players some caution. If he continues to be projected at low-ownership, Koepka could be one of the better GPP plays on the slate. Source: PGA Tour
Rory Mcllroy Hopes To End His Major Drought
3 years agoRory McIlroy's last major win came at The PGA Championship in 2014 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. McIlroy arrives in Oklahoma for this year's edition of the PGA in good form. He has two straight top-five finishes at the Masters and The Wells Fargo Championship. In Maryland, McIlroy gained 7.9 strokes from tee-to-green and 4.7 strokes on approach. He appears to be ready to win a major again. His recent form will likely inflate his ownership. Regardless, McIlroy is a recommended play in all formats.Source: PGA Tour
Keith Mitchell Aims To Rebound At PGA Championship
3 years agoKeith Mitchell looked pretty good for a while in 2022, then the last month or so reared its ugly head. Mitchell missed two cuts in a row. Last week, he almost missed a third consecutive cut but finished 76th. He has decent accuracy and ranks just outside the top 50 when it comes to greens in regulation. Mitchell could be in for a wild ride if the conditions change at all. He has the all-around game to contend at Southern Hills. It boils down to confidence for the American golfer.Source: PGATour.com
Keegan Bradley On Major Upswing Heading Into PGA
3 years agoKeegan Bradley has found the stroke over the past several tournaments. Bradley has five top-11 results since early March. That includes three straight top-eight PGA tour finishes. At the Wells Fargo, Bradley ended up tied for second behind much better putting the last three weeks (top 50 in strokes gained). Again, the American golfer has two consecutive final rounds in the 60's as the golfer tries to take that next step up to a major victory at the PGA. Source: PGATour.com
Max Homa Trying To Build Off Wells Fargo Triumph
3 years agoMax Homa feels a little bit of pressure heading into Southern Hills as he gets ready to try and add to his points total this spring. He ranks sixth overall after winning the Wells Fargo tournament. Homa comes in as an 80-1 long shot but has to be considered based on his length and ability to win at courses unexpectedly. With a string of top-20 results, Homa will likely contend this weekend if his putter and driver work in concert.Source: PGATour.com
Francesco Molinari Entertains Potential At Southern Hills
3 years agoFrancesco Molinari hit the pause button on his struggles last time out at the Byron Nelson. He finished in the top-20 for the first time since January at the American Express. At the Amex, he shot four straight rounds in the 60's. While he got hot last week, he had to come from almost nowhere just to make the cut then contend. He ranks 48th in birdies at 4.08 per round but again Molinari must putt well. When he does, the Italian golfer can contend and win any tournament. Source: PGATour.com
Matthew Wolff May Be One To Watch At Southern Hills
3 years agoMatthew Wolff can hit a golf ball a country mile. However, his approaches leave much to be desired accuracy wise. Driving accuracy ranks 201st and he has missed the cut in every other tournament in 2022. Missing the cut at the Byron Nelson suggests he will make the cut at the PGA. The American golfer has just one top-25 finish in 2022. If Wolff can make some putts early, that will put his mind at ease. Otherwise, Wolff may miss his sixth cut of the season. Source: PGATour.com
Rickie Fowler Showing Signs Of Better Form As PGA Looms
3 years agoRickie Fowler nearly netted a top-20 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship. Fowler is one of the few golfers that can truly crank some long shots off the tee. The problem becomes accuracy once more. Fowler also cannot putt consistently. His 68 during the final round of the Wells Fargo offered some hope. Meanwhile, Fowler has missed the cut in five out of eight tournaments he has entered. Fowler can drive a ball well over 310 yards ranks just 149th in driving accuracy. Putting is a mere 162nd with 0.234 strokes lost. Fowler needs to sink early putts to have a chance at the weekend.Source: PGATour.com
Louis Oosthuizen Looking To Contend Again At PGA
3 years agoLouis Oosthuizen was not in the official field earlier in the month but will tee it up on Thursday from Southern Hills. Oosthuizen finished just two strokes off the lead in last year's PGA Championship. The South African is the 15th ranked golfer in the world but has not played a lot on the tour this year due to a variety of issues and maladies. It had been a trying year for Oosthuizen then he withdrew in April from The Masters after carding a 76 in Round 1. It will be interesting to see where his game is at this point. Source: PGATour.com
Paul Casey Withdraws From PGA Championship
3 years agoPaul Casey has a way of performing well in the bigger tournaments. However, he never did start The Masters in April and has only played a handful of events since the Ryder Cup last September. As for the European Tour, Casey has not competed much there either. It does seem that Casey's back is acting up again as the Englishman was forced to withdraw from the PGA Championship. There is no word on how serious the back issue is but this is a troublesome sign. Webb Simpson Attempting To Find Game At Southern Hills
3 years agoWebb Simpson has not had the best year in 2022. From missing cuts to just struggling to contend, Simpson has seen his world ranking drop to 50th. Worse, the 76 at the Wells Fargo belies a struggle that has plagued the American golfer for months. He just cannot put several rounds together. Southern Hills in Tulsa will be a challenge as the mammoth course totals 7,481 yards. Consider, Simpson hits just 296 off the tee is not so bad. However, combine with average putting and that has the recipe for trouble at the PGA. Losing 0.04 strokes gained then nearly a tenth off the tee could get Simpson off to another short major stay.Source: PGATour.com
Alex Noren Enters PGA Championship In Top Form
3 years agoAlex Noren heads to Southern Hills riding an eight-event cuts-made streak. During that time, he has gained strokes from tee-to-green in all eight tournaments. His irons have been particularly strong, as he's gained strokes on approach in seven of his last eight starts. Not to be overlooked are his skills on the green. He has gained strokes putting in three straight events, including last week at the Byron Nelson, where he gained 2.5 strokes putting. He is a value play at his DFS price, which could make him popular in all formats. However, at a major championship, he could go overlooked in favor of bigger names. Noren is playing some great golf of late and is a very strong and cheap DFS option.Source: https://www.pgatour.com/
Cameron Champ A Good Course Fit
3 years agoAfter a tough start to the season, Cameron Champ appears to have found something heading into the second major championship of 2022. He has made the cut in three straight events, including a top-10 finish at the Masters in April. During his cuts-made streak, Champ has gained strokes on the field in all three events. He is a monster off the tee, ranking first in driving distance on the PGA Tour this season. His ability to drive the ball will come in handy at Southern Hills, which will be playing over 7,500 yards this week. Champ is priced affordably in DFS and will come at relatively low ownership. He is a high-risk, high-reward play who has shown he can play well at major championships.Source: https://www.pgatour.com/
Gary Woodland Searching For Consistency At Southern Hills
3 years agoGary Woodland enters the PGA Championship riding a stretch of inconsistency. During the 2021-2022 season, Woodland has made the cut in just seven of the 15 events he's played in. He has shown flashes of his old form, posting back-to-back top-five finishes at the Honda Classic and the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this year. However, his inability to consistently make cuts makes him a risky DFS play, even if he is reasonably priced. Add in the fact he hasn't finished higher than 38th at a major since he won the 2019 U.S Open, and Woodland may not be the best DFS play this week at Southern Hills.Source: https://www.pgatour.com/
Patrick Reed Struggling Entering PGA Championship
3 years ago2022 has been a rough year for Patrick Reed. He hasn't posted a top-10 finish this calendar year and has missed the cut in four of his last eight events. He's lost strokes from tee-to-green in every tournament he has played in this year and has been inconsistent with his putter, a club that he has leaned on throughout his career. Southern Hills does feel like a course suited to Reed's game, but the lack of form is concerning. His DFS price is on the high side given his recent play, and there are better options in his price range. He hasn't put up the results to be considered a reliable DFS play.Source: https://www.pgatour.com/
