Jordan Spieth Looks To Continue Solid Form
3 years agoAfter a surprising missed cut at the Masters, Jordan Spieth responded by winning the RBC Heritage. Spieth's strokes-gained data is impressive from his win at Harbour Town. He gained 13.3 strokes from tee-to-green and 4.8 strokes on approach. He actually lost 2.5 strokes putting. Winning a PGA Tour event while losing over two strokes on the green is an impressive feat. Spieth now sets his sights on his home state for the Bryon Nelson. He is a solid option in all fantasy formats.Source: PGA Tour
Sam Burns A Popular Choice
3 years agoSam Burns arrives in Texas for The AT&T Byron Nelson. Despite coming into this event off a missed cut at The Masters, Burns is a popular play in DFS. Before The Masters, Burns had a strong few events. He was a repeat winner of The Valspar Championship in March. That week he gained over 8.8 strokes tee-to-green and seven strokes on approach. It was Burns second top 10 in his last three starts. Daily fantasy players will have to decide if they want to take on Burns high ownership this week. Source: PGA Tour
Will Zalatoris Desperate For Positive Putter
3 years agoWill Zalatoris has gained strokes putting twice this season, with both instances coinciding with two of his three worst approach performances. He is one of the premier ball strikers on tour, crippled by a putter that refuses to gain even a fraction of a stroke needed to win golf tournaments. He has six top-20s in a dozen starts, further highlighting the excellence of his tee-to-green game. If History repeats itself, Zalatoris will have to overcome a deficient putter with career-best ball striking if he wants to win the AT&T Byron Nelson this week. Source: PGA Tour
Talor Gooch A Great Course Fit
3 years agoTalor Gooch has 10 top-20s in 17 starts this season, including a win at The RSM Classic. He has been excellent on approach, around the green and putting all season, while his driver has driver has been a non-factor. Gooch is 13th on tour in birdie or better percentage, scoring under par a quarter of the time. At a golf course that is not as penal off the tee, the worst part of his game may escape the spotlight for once, allowing the rest of his game to hopefully steal the show. Source: PGA Tour
Si Woo Kim A Safe Play
3 years agoExcluding his withdrawal from The Players Championship, where he most likely would have missed the cut in atrocious conditions, Si Woo Kim has made the cut in all 10 of his starts this year. He has been stealthily steady off the tee, relying on a crisp combination of accuracy and distance. He has struggled to find consistency on the greens, though, losing strokes in that department often. Prior to last week's extremely difficult Wells Fargo conditions, he ranked 47th on tour in birdie-or-better percentage. Regardless of his poor putting performances, his ball-striking continues to produce steady results.Source: PGA Tour
Joaquin Niemann Can Capitalize On Impressive Ball-Striking
3 years agoJoaquin Niemann is one of the longer drivers on tour, gaining off the tee in every start this year. Over that same time frame, he has only lost on approach once, at a hazard-stricken Honda Classic the week after winning the Genesis Invitational. Nieman is 15th in birdie or better percentage this season, circling his score 24.87% of the time. If his motivation levels remain intact the week before a major, a relatively low-owned Niemann can win his second tournament of the year. Source: PGA Tour
Scottie Scheffler Looking To Continue Historic Run
3 years agoScottie Scheffler has now won four of his last six stroke-play events. He is gaining over a stroke per round ball striking this season, averaging 0.71 on approach and 0.33 off the tee. With the winning score at -25 last year, birdies are essential here and Scheffler is second in the field in that category, making birdie or better 28% of the time. As unrealistic as it may seem, Scheffler may just win his fifth event in seven starts if he brings any sort of motivation to the course this week. Source: PGA Tour
Jason Day A High-Risk, High-Reward Play
3 years agoHeading into the weekend leading the Wells Fargo Championship last week, Jason Day struggled to maintain the elite ball-striking performance that got him to the top of the leaderboard. He gained six strokes on approach in his first two rounds, flashing signs of the incredible potential that saw him win five events in 2015. Day remains high-risk, high-reward, as his back issues seem to plague any sort of momentum he garners lately.Source: PGA Tour
Xander Schauffele A Great Pivot
3 years agoXander Schauffele bounced back from an abysmal Masters missed cut with a win at the Zurich Classic team event, continuing to add wins to his eccentric PGA Tour resume. His game suits this course well, as he has gained on approach and off the tee in the majority of his starts this season. He is also capable of making a lot of birdies, sitting inside the top-20 on tour in birdies or better this year. Schauffelle appears under-owned in DFS at an event that sets up extremely well for him.Source: PGA Tour
Justin Thomas Can Run Away At Byron Nelson
3 years agoJustin Thomas' worst finish in his 12 starts this season is T35. At a course that demands a lot of birdies, Thomas has made birdie or better on 28.75% of his holes this season, leading the field in that category. His approach play over the last two years and last 24 rounds both rank first as well. He has also gained a total of nine strokes putting in his last 20 rounds which ties a bow on a statistical profile that is bound to hoist a trophy soon. Source: PGA Tour
Charles Howell III In Action At Byron Nelson
3 years agoCharles Howell III will tee it up at the AT&T Byron Nelson coming off a T33 at the Mexico Open. Howell made the cut at the Byron Nelson last season, finishing in 55th. In that event, Howell shot a first-round 65, but didn't shoot another round under 70. However, this season, Howell hasn't had much trouble making birdies. Currently Howell sits T34 in birdie average, and 45th in birdie or better percentage, and he also sits inside the top-60 on tour in four of the major strokes-gained categories. Howell will have a very cheap DFS price this week, which is appealing, but the chance for a blow up is always in play for Howell. Even with the risk, Howell is worth a look this week in Texas. Sepp Straka Riding A Roller Coaster Into Texas
3 years agoHold on tight for the Sepp Straka roller coaster! After winning the Honda Classic in late February, Straka has been anything but consistent. Since the win, Straka has picked up top-10 finishes at The Players Championship, and well as the RBC Heritage, but has missed cuts at three events, including his last two starts. However, Straka did have a top-30 finish at the AT&T Byron Nelson last season, finishing T26. This season, Straka will have a cheap DFS price, but be aware of his struggles to consistently make birdies. Straka sits outside the top-100 on tour in both birdie or better percentage, and birdie average. Although the price is fair, Straka is too inconsistent to play this week in a field that has some depth. Source: PGA Tour
Aaron Wise A Good Option At Byron Nelson
3 years agoAaron Wise comes into the AT&T Byron Nelson off his third top-10 finish of the season at the Mexico Open. For Wise, it was his third top-21 finish in his last five starts as well. Last season at the Byron Nelson, Wise finished T55 after struggling to make birdies on the weekend. This season, Wise sits 41st on tour in birdie or better percentage, as well as T42 in birdie average. With that, Wise also sits inside the top-40 on tour in four of the six major strokes-gained categories. Wise will have a lower-than-average DFS price this week, which is very appealing for someone playing as well as him. Wise should be considered in all contests this week.Source: PGA Tour
Matt Kuchar Looks To Keep Rolling In Texas
3 years agoMake it four straight made cuts (and five of the last six) for Matt Kuchar, who has jumped nearly 70 spots in the FedEx Cup standings during that stretch of golf. Kuchar will now look for another made cut this week at the AT&T Byron Nelson. Last year, Kuchar finished T17 in the event, although he would have had a much higher finish if he didn't have a round to forget on Sunday. Kuchar shot the fourth-highest score on the golf course on that Sunday, on his way to finishing in 17th place. This week, Kuchar will have a more-than-fair DFS price for his current play, but the question will be how low can he go? He proved through the first three rounds last season he wouldn't have an issue. Either way, Kuchar is a safe play for a made cut this week at an affordable DFS price.Source: PGA Tour
Dustin Johnson Returns At AT&T Byron Nelson
3 years agoFor the first time as a married man, Dustin Johnson will be in the field this week at the AT&T Byron Nelson. Johnson hasn't played a ton of golf recently, only two starts since the start of April, but he does have three top-15 finishes in his last five starts. Johnson will be teeing it up for the first time in his career at TPC Craig Ranch, as he didn't play in the event last season, but he should fit right in on the birdie fest conditions that we saw last season. Johnson is 20th on tour in birdie or better percentage, as well as T26 on tour in birdie average. Johnson has the game to compete this week in Texas, but with a pretty balanced field this week, spending big money on Johnson might be riskier that spreading out that DFS salary.Source: PGA Tour
