2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies pitcher Seranthony Dominguez (triceps) will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday. He was cleared to face live hitters last week and will throw an inning in Thursday's rehab appearance. The 27-year-old will appear in a few rehab appearances before rejoining the team in mid-September. He has been sidelined with triceps tendinitis since August 17. Dominguez has been excellent for the Phillies in 2022, converting 9-of-10 saves with a 1.64 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and a 54:14 K: BB across 44 innings 2022. 2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Joey Gallo (elbow) underwent X-rays after Wednesday's game against the Giants, and the results returned negative. He exited Wednesday's game early after being hit by a pitch in the elbow during the second inning. According to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Gallo reported some tingling in his fingers because it got the funny bone, but he should be fine. The 28-year-old avoided a significant injury and is considered day-to-day. His next chance to return to the lineup will be Friday against the San Diego Padres. He is slashing .203/.311/.469 with four homers and 13 RBI in 24 games since being acquired by the Dodgers at the trade deadline. 2 years agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Juan Soto (shoulder) sustained a right shoulder contusion during Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, the star outfielder should be "ok" after Thursday's team's scheduled day off. A pitch hit him in the shoulder, but he initially stayed in the game before being pulled in the top of the fifth inning for Trent Grisham. Soto avoids a significant injury and should return to the lineup for Friday's contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He went 0-for-1 with a strikeout before exiting. The 23-year-old initially stayed in the game before being pulled in the top of the fifth inning for Trent Grisham. He will undergo further evaluation after the game and is considered day-to-day. Soto has struggled over his last 10 games, hitting .143 (5-for-35) with one homer, two RBI, and six runs. 2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) sustained a non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger and is considered day-to-day. The 33-year-old sat out both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was removed from Tuesday's contest against the Pirates after being hit by a pitch on the right hand. The veteran appears to have avoided a significant injury, but it's unclear if the finger issue will require a trip to the injured list. 2 years agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hamstring) was diagnosed with left hamstring discomfort after exiting Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. He sustained the hamstring injury trying to beat out a double-play ground ball during the second inning. He went 0-for-1 with an RBI before exiting. Gurriel is considered day-to-day, with his next chance to return to the lineup will be Friday against the Texas Rangers. 2 years agoColorado Rockies outfielder Yonathan Daza had another multi-hit game after he went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 8-4 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers. He doubled and scored twice during the contest and has back-to-back two-hit games since coming off the injured list. Daza has come out of nowhere to be a big batting average contributor, hitting .304, but hasn't shown any power or speed (two home runs, no stolen bases) across his 92 games this season or throughout his career. 2 years agoCincinnati Reds rookie right-hander Hunter Greene (shoulder) will make another minor league rehab start on Sunday at Triple-A Louisville. After that, barring any setbacks, Greene is expected to rejoin the Reds' starting rotation to close out the 2022 season. The 23-year-old rookie has allowed one run on two hits while walking one and striking out 10 in his two outings for Louisville so far, so he certainly looks about ready to return to the big leagues. Greene won't be able to rack up that many strikeouts the rest of the way for fantasy managers, but he'll be a highly coveted strikeout arm in fantasy drafts going into his second big league season. 2 years agoTexas Rangers third base prospect Josh Jung will be recalled from the minors and will make his major league debut for the team on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to sources. A torn left labrum in his shoulder in spring training kept Jung from beginning the year in the major leagues, but he'll wind up debuting this year anyway, albeit a lot later than most expected. The team's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, hit a combined .267/.323/.542 with an .865 OPS, nine home runs, 29 RBI and 18 runs scored in 30 games for the Rookie-level club and Triple-A Round Rock this year. Although the 24-year-old won't have much time to make a fantasy impact for the rest of 2022, he's deserving of a pickup in almost all leagues if you need a power boost. 2 years agoLos Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (wrist) was initially believed to be out for the year after he had right wrist surgery, but he's been fully participating in defensive drills, including throwing and hitting in the cages. There's now a chance that Rendon could return before the end of the regular season. It would allow him to serve his five-game suspension from his role in a fight with the Seattle Mariners in June. Head trainer Mike Frostad said Rendon is passing all of the tests so far. The 32-year-old has been a disappointment since signing a seven-year, $245 million deal with the Angels, and he's missed most of the season for the second time in three years. 2 years agoMilwaukee Brewers left-hander Eric Lauer (elbow) left his start early on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies with left elbow tightness, according to the team. It was a rough day for Lauer, as he coughed up seven runs on six hits while striking out four in 2 2/3 innings before departing with his injury. The 27-year-old was probably hindered by his arm in the short amount of time he was in the game, but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to make his next start or even return at all in the final month of the regular season as the Brewers attempt to land a wild-card spot. 2 years agoHouston Astros right-hander Justin Verlander (calf) is progressing nicely, perhaps even quicker than expected. He hasn't thrown off a pitching rubber yet, but he threw off the slope of the mound on Wednesday. Verlander is hoping to throw a light bullpen session in the next couple of days, but there's still no concrete timetable for his return to the starting rotation. The Astros will want the 39-year-old two-time Cy Young winner fully healthy for the playoffs, so they'll make sure not to rush him back to close out September. It sounds like he'll be ready to go sooner than later, but he's still running out of time to help fantasy managers. 2 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder Teoscar Hernandez on the paternity list on Wednesday. In corresponding moves, the team recalled right-hander Zach Pop and catcher Gabriel Moreno from Triple-A Buffalo and optioned right-hander Mitch White to Buffalo in a corresponding move. Fantasy managers will now be without Hernandez for the next one to three games, so plan accordingly. Raimel Tapia is getting the start in right field and is hitting sixth on Wednesday against Baltimore Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells. 2 years agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Senzel (ankle) remains out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs. Senzel will miss his second straight game after he was scratched from the lineup on Tuesday with a right ankle sprain. The 27-year-old should be considered day-to-day for now by fantasy managers. TJ Friedl will start in center field and bat leadoff on Wednesday against Cubs right-hander Javier Assad. The left-handed-hitting Friedl has gone 39-for-142 (.275) on the year with five homers, 19 RBI, 24 runs scored and six steals in 46 games.
