2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola reached the 200-strikeout mark on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. In 6 2/3 innings of work, Nola allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out 10 and walking only two. The outing was the 29-year-old's 16th quality start of the season, and it was his fifth time reaching double-digit strikeouts in 2022. He's now reached 200 strikeouts for the fourth straight season. Overall, Nola is 9-11 with a 3.35 ERA (2.64 FIP), a 0.97 WHIP, 200 K's and 24 walks in 177 1/3 innings pitched over 27 starts this year. Tuesday's outing was a nice rebound after he surrendered eight earned runs in just four innings his last time out against the Arizona Diamondbacks.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

2 years agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher Tyler Wells (oblique) is being activated from the 15-day injured list and will start on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Wells only threw 31 pitches in his minor league rehab start, so there's a good chance he won't have a long leash against a tough opponent in his first start back. Fantasy managers would be wise to avoid Wells this evening. The 28-year-old has been solid for the O's in 2022, going 7-6 with a 3.90 ERA (4.39 FIP), a 1.11 WHIP, 68 strikeouts and 23 walks in 94 2/3 innings over his 20 starts in his second major league season. However, his 17.8 percent strikeout rate has left a lot to be desired in fantasy leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MASN Sports - Roch Kubatko

2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (hand) is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Marte was hit by a pitch on his right hand on Tuesday and is undergoing tests, but skipper Buck Showalter said, "so far, so good." It appears that the 33-year-old has avoided any structural damage to his hand, but don't be surprised if he misses both games of the doubleheader on Wednesday. For now, fantasy managers should consider Marte to be day-to-day. With Marte sidelined, Tyler Naquin is starting in right field and batting seventh against Pirates right-hander Duane Underwood Jr. Naquin has been much better against righties in 2022 and has 10 home runs in 84 games while hitting .240 on the year. He'll be a deep DFS sleeper on Wednesday.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Baseball Press

2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer (oblique) is going on the 15-day injured list and won't make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Miami Marlins. Scherzer had to be pulled early from his last start on Saturday with what manager Buck Showalter called fatigue in his left side. The good news is that Scherzer isn't very concerned and expects to be ready to go when his 15 days are up. Lefty David Peterson is likely to re-enter the rotation with Scherzer temporarily sidelined. The 38-year-old Scherzer has been a must-start in fantasy in his first year in New York, going 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA (2.53 FIP), a 0.92 WHIP, 153 strikeouts and 23 walks in 127 2/3 innings over 20 starts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Anthony DiComo

2 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez (back) is expected to be in the lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. According to Red Sox manager Alex Cora, Martinez was scratched earlier with back tightness but will be ready for Wednesday's contest. The 35-year-old had been solid before the injury, slashing .262./.311/.429 with two home runs, five RBI, and five runs across 45 plate appearances in his last 10 games. Fantasy managers should check back on Wednesday to ensure Martinez is starting before inserting him into their starting lineups. Stay tuned.--Brad Camara - RotoBallerSource: Jen McCaffrey

2 years agoMilwaukee Brewers second baseman Kolten Wong (knee) was removed from Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies with general knee soreness. He went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before exiting in the sixth inning in Tuesday's loss. The 31-year-old is considered day-to-day. He has been solid this season, slashing .247/.333/.418 with 11 home runs, 37 RBI, 56 runs and 11 stolen bases across 420 plate appearances in 112 games. Wong is expected to be out of the lineup Wednesday, with Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland scheduled to pitch. Jace Peterson would see an uptick in playing time if Wong is forced to miss any further games.--Brad Camara - RotoBallerSource: Todd Rosiak

2 years agoChicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert (hand) underwent X-rays that returned negative after he left Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. He was diagnosed with a bruised left hand. The 25-year-old was struck on the left hand by a pitch and was removed in the bottom of the fifth inning during Tuesday's loss. He avoided a significant injury and is considered day-to-day. Robert is slashing .295/.331/.444 with 12 home runs, 56 RBI, 54 runs and 11 stolen bases over 384 plate appearances in 92 games. Robert is questionable for Wednesday's series finale against the Seattle Mariners. Adam Engel would see an uptick in playing time if Robert misses any games.--Brad Camara - RotoBallerSource: James Fegan

2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin (forearm) played light catch Tuesday, per MLB.com's Juan Toribio. Manager Dave Roberts said that the Dodgers are optimistic that Gonsolin will have enough time to build up from right forearm soreness before the end of the season, but acknowledged that he has not progressed as quickly as initially hoped for. While this is good news for the Dodgers, it is not for fantasy managers, who may not get Gonsolin back in time for any of the fantasy playoffs. The 28-year-old has been fantastic this season, going 16-1 with a 2.10 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 23.7% strikeout rate in 23 starts.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: Juan Toribio - Twitter.com

2 years agoHouston Astros manager Dusty Baker said that closer Ryan Pressly (neck) still doesn't feel right and did not return to the team Tuesday as intended, per Houston Chronicle's Chandler Rome. Pressly has been on the injured list since mid-August with neck stiffness, but Baker did clarify that he hasn't been shut down. This is not a good sign for fantasy managers, as there is not much time left in the fantasy season. However, the news makes teammate Rafael Montero even more of a fantasy asset down the stretch, who has been filling in for Pressly.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: Chandler Rome - Twitter.com

2 years agoTampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that shortstop Wander Franco (hand, wrist) received treatment for his right hand/wrist Tuesday after leaving his minor league rehab game early on Monday with Triple-A Durham, per Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin. Franco also took 40-50 swings and should start for Durham on Wednesday. The 21-year-old hasn't played for the Rays since July 9 and hasn't had the smoothest rehab assignment, so it remains to be seen when he will rejoin the team. While the Rays would love to have him back, they will likely make sure he is fully healthy before proceeding. This may limit the time he can help fantasy managers in 2022.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: Marc Topkin - Twitter.com

2 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane McClanahan (shoulder) threw 15-20 pitches off the mound Tuesday and felt good, per Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin. The bullpen session comprised fastballs and changeups. The 25-year-old landed on the injured list at the end of August with a left shoulder impingement, so he is progressing nicely. He should throw another bullpen session in a few days and could be reinserted into the rotation in mid-September if everything goes well. This is great news for the Rays and fantasy managers, as McClanahan has been excellent this season with a 2.20 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 32.5% strikeout rate in 24 starts,--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: Marc Topkin - Twitter.com

2 years agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (back) exited Tuesday's 8-4 loss to the Rays with back spasms, per MLB.com's Ian Browne. Bogaerts went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before being replaced by Rob Refsnyder. It sounds like Bogaerts is day-to-day, as it was reported that he will not be in the lineup on Wednesday. His numbers haven't been bad with a .315/.382/.466 slash line, 12 home runs, 63 RBI and eight steals, but they also haven't been exactly what fantasy managers had hoped for in terms of counting stats. There is still time for Bogaerts to contribute, but fantasy managers should keep an eye out for when he will be back in the Red Sox's lineup.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: Ian Browne - Twitter.com

2 years agoSan Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. had a successful surgery Tuesday to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, per San Diego-Union Tribune's Kevin Acee. The procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. The 23-year-old should have plenty of time to heal before the start of the 2023 season, although he will need to finish his 80-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. Tatis was a huge fantasy bust this season after first fracturing his wrist in an off-season motorcycle accident, then receiving the suspension. That being said, he will remain a top fantasy option once he returns.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: Kevin Acee - Twitter.com

2 years agoLos Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (knee) is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Detroit Tigers. He was originally listed as out due to a knee issue. However, Rengifo must be feeling better because the Angels have put him back in the lineup for this contest. He'll bat cleanup and play second base against lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. Rengifo could be worth a look as a streaming option after a four-hit performance on Monday.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (hand) has been removed from Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 33-year-old was hit by a pitch in the right hand during the first inning. Marte did stay in the game, but ultimately came out in the bottom of the second inning. Tyler Naquin replaced Marte in the outfield and could see more playing time, assuming Marte does miss time. The expectation is that Marte is going to need X-rays on his hand. Fantasy managers should get an update on Marte after the contest.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Steve Gelbs
