Will Zalatoris Looks To Build Off Past Success
3 years agoWill Zalatoris recorded a second-place finish at his first Masters start. It was an impressive debut last year for Zalatoris. He typically excels in ball-striking, but in 2021, Zalatoris had a great putting week. If he putts well again this week, there is no reason he won't be in contention again. Zalatoris ranks seventh in the field off the tee and first in approach over the last 24 rounds. Even with his form and history, he is not projected to be too highly owned. Zalatoris is a viable option in all formats.Source: PGA Tour
Joaquin Niemann Has Struggled At Augusta
3 years agoJoaquin Niemann will play in his third Masters this week and is still looking for his first finish inside the top 40. Niemann has been hard to figure out this season, as he started the season with three straight finishes outside the top 25, then put up a T5 at Mayakoba. Niemann then missed two cuts before a T6 at the Farmers Open and had a dominating win at the Genesis Invitational. However, since his win, Niemann has yet to finish inside the top 20. His DFS price is high for someone as inconsistent as he has played, which does bring more risk. Better options can be found this week at a similar or equal price point.Source: PGA Tour
Seamus Power Making Masters Debut
3 years agoSeamus Power will tee it up for the first time in his career at The Masters this week, after a nice start to his 2021-22 season. So far, Power has four top-ten finishes, and eight top-20 finishes this season. In his last outing, Power finished T5 in the WGC-Match Play. Power has been one of the better putters on tour this season, currently sitting 38th on tour in strokes gained putting. With that, Power sits 55th in strokes gained total, and 56th in strokes gained off the tee. At his DFS price, Power has incredible upside. However, with that said, many DFS players will likely take a chance on Power this week. The upside does outweigh the ownership, Power is playable in all contests.Source: PGA Tour
Abraham Ancer Is Risky At Augusta
3 years agoAbraham Ancer ended his streak of seven straight finishes outside the top 30 with a T5 at the WGC-Match Play a couple of weeks ago. It was a struggle for Ancer in early 2022, but he might have found his form at the perfect time. Ancer has made both of his career cuts at Augusta National, with a best finish of 13th in 2020. The risk with Ancer comes with the price. For his struggles, the DFS price is fair, but some of the players priced around Ancer have more upside. The next question with Ancer comes from his last outing. Was it a fluke, or is he really back? It's too early to tell. Ancer will make this cut, but don't count on a top-tier finish from him this week.Source: PGA Tour
Russell Henley Returns To The Masters This Week
3 years agoFor the first time since 2018, Russell Henley will play in The Masters. Henley is coming off top-15 finishes in two of his last three starts. Henley has yet to miss a cut this season, as he is 12-for-12 so far, including five top-15 finishes. In his career, Henley has made four of five cuts at Augusta National, and in his four made cuts, he has finished no worse than 31st and as high as 11th. Henley's game fits Augusta National well, as he is the best player on the tour with an iron in his hand. Henley sits first on tour in strokes gained on approach. With his very reasonable DFS price, Henley might be one of the best sleepers in the field this week with incredible upside.Source: PGA Tour
Cameron Young Looking To Capitalize On Elite Driving Ability
3 years agoCameron Young is making his maiden Masters start as the 46th-ranked player in the world. Two T2s at the Sanderson Farms Championship and The Genesis Invitational gained him most of the Official World Golf Ranking points needed to crack the top 50. Young is a monster off the tee, gaining well over a stroke per round on the field at courses that allow him to unleash accurate bombs. The other three major areas of his game can gain as many strokes as his driver, albeit much less consistently. If he continues being one of the best drivers on tour and another part of his game gets hot, he may surprise a lot of casual viewers at this year's Masters.Source: PGA Tour
Scottie Scheffler Looks To Ride Hot Streak
3 years agoScottie Scheffler is the hottest player in the field this week. He arrives at Augusta winning three of his last five starts and overtaking the world number one ranking. The 25-year-old has been sharp in all aspects of his game and has all the tools to succeed this week. In two career starts at The Masters Tournament, the Texas native has finished T19 and T18. There is no reason to not like the number one player in the world this week, expect him to be in contention on the weekend. Source: Fantasy National
Louis Oosthuizen Looks To Continue Major Success
3 years agoLouis Oosthuizen finished inside the top five in three out of four major championships last season. The South African heads to Augusta this week looking to add to that success. Unfortunately, the recent form has not been good. The 39-year-old has lost his irons recently, losing strokes on approach in three straight events and failing to finish better than T30 in any of those three starts. Players who head to Augusta off their game rarely turn it around to have success here. The task does not get any easier for Oosthuizen, as he is paired with Tiger Woods for Rounds 1 and 2.Source: Fantasy National
Si Woo Kim Seeking First Masters Top-10 Finish
3 years agoSi Woo Kim has finished inside the top 20 in half of his 14 starts this season. He has done so on the merits of his steady off-the-tee game, with the other areas of his game sporadically gaining the necessary strokes to finish that high up on the leaderboard. Kim has put together a tidy Masters resume, finishing T24, T21, T34 and T12 in his four starts after missing the cut in his first appearance. If Kim wants to contend for a win this week, he will need an outlier performance on the greens or with his irons.Source: PGA Tour
Jason Kokrak Needs Ball-Striking To Improve
3 years agoJason Kokrak will need to ramp up his ball-striking this week if he wants to contend. Even with an abundance of length off the tee, Kokrak has barely been gaining strokes in that department lately. His approach play has been steady, but he has yet to have any impressive iron performances since his win at the Houston Open last fall. His putter has been doing most of the heavy lifting, which is a tough recipe to repeat on a weekly basis. The long hitter has a missed cut and a 49th-place finish in his two Augusta starts. Outside of his win, Kokrak has not finished better than T17 this season, giving little reason to believe he will contend for a green jacket this week.Source: PGA Tour
Jordan Spieth Hitting The Ball Well Ahead Of The Masters
3 years agoJordan Spieth had a strong Sunday at The Valero Texas Open. Total for the tournament, he gained 10.9 strokes tee-to-green and 6.2 on approach. That was Spieth's highest total tee-to-green since the Valero in 2021. The 2015 winner of The Masters, struggled on the greens last week, losing 7.2 strokes putting. Spieth's history at Augusta National is well documented. It is an encouraging sign to see him hit the ball so well last week. If his ball-striking continues and he improves the putting he should find himself in contention again. Spieth is a recommended play this week in all formats. Source: PGA Tour
Lee Westwood Hoping To Find Form At Augusta
3 years agoLee Westwood returns to The Masters where he finished second in 2016. Westwood arrives in Augusta in poor form. He has missed the cut in his last two starts. He has also lost strokes total in four out of his last five starts. The 48-year-old Englishman has played at The Masters a number of times and is very familiar with the course. He hopes to use that familiarity to his advantage this week. While he will be low-owned, it may be best to fade Westwood based on his current form. Source: PGA Tour
Brian Harman A Sneaky Play This Week
3 years agoBrian Harman may be one of the shorter hitters on tour, but that has not stopped him from gaining over 0.58 strokes off the tee in his last four stroke-play starts. Consistent accuracy off the tee is Harman's strength, which is slightly nullified around a more forgiving Augusta National. Harman has also shown some form with his irons, gaining over half a stroke per round in four of his last six events. He has yet to lose strokes putting in any of his 11 seasons on tour, often leaning on the flat stick to do most of his scoring. The lefty will be looking to continue his renewed ball-striking at Augusta this week, with hopes of improving on last year's T12.Source: PGA Tour
Sergio Garcia Has Struggled Recently At Augusta
3 years agoSergio Garcia has a long history with Augusta National, highlighted by a victory in the 2017 Masters. However, since his win in 2017, Garcia has yet to make the cut in any of his three starts at The Masters. Before his win, Sergio had never missed more than two cuts in a row at Augusta, in 18 starts. However, this season, Garcia has only missed one cut, and that came in his first start of the season. Since then, Garcia has made six straight cuts, with a best finish of T7 at Mayakoba. Garcia will have a lower than average DFS price, but will struggle to pay it off. Better options can be found than Garcia in the 2022 Masters.Source: PGA Tour
Cameron Smith Looks To Stay Hot At Augusta
3 years agoCameron Smith returns for the first time since his Players Championship win this week at Augusta National. Smith has been a boom-or-bust option at Augusta in his career, recording top-ten finishes in three of five career starts, including a T2 finish in November 2020. Smith has not made many starts this season, but winning two of those starts is very impressive. Smith is second on the PGA Tour in strokes gained total, and third on tour in strokes gained putting. His DFS price is lower than expected for someone with his recent success, and history at Augusta National. Smith is an option in all contests this week. Source: PGA Tour
