RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - FedEx St. Jude Championship

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the weekly PGA “One and Done” column will be back for the fourth season.

For an in-depth breakdown of the top DraftKings and FanDuel plays, check out Joe Nicely's weekly Horse For The Course which highlights the best fits for the week's course. And you can also find out who the smart money is on by checking out Spencer Aguiar's PGA DFS: Vegas Report every week.

One and Done Selections - FedEx St. Jude Championship

In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters, Owen Vrabel, Matt Miller and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Joe Nicely - Collin Morikawa

Alternate - Billy Horschel

As the clock ticks down on both the PGA Tour season and our OAD contests, my options - and hopes - are dwindling. Sungjae Im put forth a valiant effort for me last week, but unfortunately, I need wins and only wins at this point. With some of my preferred options not available to me this week in my home state of Tennessee, I’m forced to go with a player that, like me, needs a win…Collin Morikawa.

It’s tough to label a season that’s included top-five results in both the Masters and the U.S. Open disappointing, but I think Collin himself would agree that he’s not had his best stuff this year. I’m hoping that he can salvage what’s been - at least by his lofty standards - an underwhelming 2022 this week in Memphis. His track record at TPC Southwind is solid, if unspectacular, but this is a golf course that suits his strengths by any measure. Hopefully, something clicks for Morikawa this week.

Yearly Earnings - $9,178,208
Yearly Cuts Made - 25/31

Josh Bennett - Will Zalatoris

Alternate - Cameron Young

Shockingly, as much as I’ve played Will in DFS, it appears I still have him left in this contest. Seems like this guy would have been my Webb Simpson pick of last year, where I just attempted to pick him every single week, but apparently never did. Anyways, anywhere you read or listen tells you this is a “ball-striker’s paradise” (not even sure what that really *means* but it sounds good), so if you’re looking for a pure ball-striker then you can pretty much start and end at Zalatoris. Long off the tee, mostly accurate, irons as we know are insanely good. It’s the key to good golf anywhere (other than putting the ball in the hole) so I can’t see why that doesn’t succeed here. He’s also known to be pretty good in events that do not pile up a ton of birdies, and this event happens to be one of those. He finished 8th at TPC Southwind last year and rolling into this event with a handful of good finishes. I think it’s time for Willy Z to breakthrough and get that “W”.

Yearly Earnings - $6,070,987
Yearly Cuts Made - 23/31

Spencer Aguiar - Will Zalatoris

Alternate - Shane Lowry

Well, I have been relegated (like pretty much everyone else in this contest) to watch the final two events with no actual path to winning the yearly RotoBaller 'One & Done.' My time as the champion has come to an end, and my intrigue now comes down to if Joe can pull off a miraculous come-from-behind victory to become the first two-time winner, which would be a story for the ages.

I will keep things simple and take the golfer I have saved for this situation all season. Will Zalatoris ranks in the top eight in every statistical metric I ran for TPC Southwind, and his ability to create opportunities at a higher rate than just about anyone in this field intrigues me for his chances to walk out of Memphis with his first PGA Tour title.

Yearly Earnings - $8,093,823
Yearly Cuts Made - 28/31

Matt Miller - Viktor Hovland

Alternate -

This week I'm going with Viktor Hovland. We haven't seen him since he impressed with his T4 finish at the Open Championship. While it's been a somewhat disappointing year for Hovland overall, this feels like a perfect time to get it going.
TPC Southwind is a ball striker's paradise which should set up perfectly for Viktor. He has gained over three strokes on average on approach over his last five starts (12th on tour this season). Many approach shots this week will fall between 125-200 yards and in those ranges Hovland excels. He is 7th in the field over his last 36 rounds from 125-150, 30th from 150-175 and 7th from 175-200. He also ranks inside the top 20 of strokes gained off the tee this season. In addition, Hovalnd recently noted that TPC Southwind is one of his favorite courses on tour.

Yearly Earnings - $6,357,192
Yearly Cuts Made - 23/31

Andrew Putters - Matthew Fitzpatrick

Alternate - Scott Stallings

The recipe for TPC Southwind calls for a methodical gameplan.  You have to hit greens here to score, and you have to be in the fairway to hit the greens. Matty Fitz is just that, a very methodical approach to the game.  He also has had some success here in the past.  I am not saying he’s going to win this thing, but he is going to be in the hunt.  Stallings has just been doing everything right over the past couple months.

Yearly Earnings - $5,446,151
Yearly Cuts Made - 19/31

Owen Vrabel - Sam Burns

Yearly Earnings - $11,035,573
Yearly Cuts Made - 24/31
