One and Done Selections - Charles Schwab
Joe Nicely - Collin Morikawa
Alternate - Justin Rose
After last week’s Xander Schauffele debacle, I’m running out of ways to get back into this contest. I’m going with what will likely be a popular pick in Collin Morikawa. While the young star might be a fairly obvious choice for this week’s tight Colonial layout, I’m willing to swallow any OAD chalk there might be in order to grab a player that I feel has a very good chance to win this event. This classic Texas course is one of the last true bastions for short and accurate players on the PGA Tour schedule, and a tough playoff loss in last year’s Charles Schwab indicates that the ball-striker's paradise is tailor-made for Morikawa, the player that leads the PGA Tour in practically every ball-striking category imaginable.

Spencer Aguiar - Collin Morikawa
Alternate - Billy Horschel
Part of the reason I deviated away from Collin Morikawa last weekend at the PGA Championship stemmed from the fact that I was planning to take the American at Colonial. While I wish I would have banked a top-10 showing out of the one-time major winner, I am happy to grab the youngster in the spot I originally had him slated for in my pre-season projections.
Morikawa famously lipped a putt out at this event last season during the first return from COVID-19, which ended the playoff and made Daniel Berger the victor, but I do expect the 24-year-old to return with a vengeance. Morikawa ranked inside the top-16 in every metric I used for the week, including placing first in weighted proximity from over 100 yards and strokes gained tee to green over the last two years.

Yearly Cuts Made - 16/20
Josh Bennett - Will Zalatoris
Alternate - Abraham Ancer
I have a feeling that Texas natives will be a popular choice this week, and although I wasn’t searching specifically for one, I did land on one that I know should be unique in this contest. I held onto Will for a while and I think this is the perfect time to use him. Coming off a major where a few of the elites in the field might be feeling a little less motivated, Will has to continue to dominate given his current status with the Tour. This is a great course for him as well. His length will be helpful to take out a handful of bunker issues on the course, and he’s one of the better iron players in the field. Past results of this event have shown that elite iron players tend to show up at the top of the leaderboard, so Will should fill into that space nicely. If he can rack up a decent week of putting, I don’t see any reason why he can’t win this tournament.
