One And Done Staff Picks Overview

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the weekly PGA “One and Done” column will be back for a third season.

In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

For an in-depth breakdown of the top DraftKings and FanDuel plays, check out Joe Nicely's weekly Horse For The Course that highlights the best fits for the week's course. One and Done Selections - U.S. Open

Joe Nicely - Jon Rahm

Alternate - Louis Oosthuizen

I feel a weird combination of pain and pride in this year’s OAD contest...pain because, well, Spencer, Andrew, & Josh, are kicking my ass! But there’s also a strong sense of pride that comes from knowing just how sharp this RotoBaller team is and how seriously they take this (admittedly silly) little competition we have between ourselves every year in an attempt to help our readers with their OAD selections. Yep...I’m like the Dad that can no longer beat his son in a game of pickup basketball in the driveway. Mixed emotions abound.

Ok, with all that out of the way, let’s dig into the U.S. Open. Obviously, I’m way down in the RB OAD standings, so I’m forced to make some type of move to get back into this thing (Dad isn’t giving up that easy, kids!). I feel I have the perfect opportunity to gain much-needed ground this week because I’m the only one in this contest with Jon Rahm still available. Now, I’m neither a Jon Rahm lover nor hater, but if you don’t think he got epically screwed at the Memorial (even though it was the only realistic choice the PGA Tour had) you’re completely out of your mind. I love his form, I love his track record at Torrey Pines, and I love the fact that this is an avenue to gain some exposure to the guy that sits atop all the DFS salary scales. I’m tying on a red headband this week boys...LET’S GO RAHMBO!

Spencer Aguiar - Dustin Johnson

Alternate - Paul Casey

Oh, Harris English. I thought there was a real chance that I might have created a cushion heading into the closing run of tournaments, but I somehow ended up with one of the worst payouts of the group at the Palmetto after the American imploded down the stretch. While that was a frustrating conclusion to our week in South Carolina, the game continues at Torrey Pines, and the 2.25 million dollars up for grabs will go a long way in deciding the winner if one of the four of us can pinpoint the eventual champion in California.

There are a ton of options that make sense if you still have them available. Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau and Patrick Cantlay are just a few that would be on my shortlist, but the lack of high-end choices left on my board pretty much has put me in a position where this pick was going to be Dustin Johnson or Brooks Koepka. Since I do still have some trepidation about Koepka's health, DJ, you are next up on the tee.

Johnson has seen a steady improvement in his career when faced with fast Poa greens, ranking third in this field, and the big-hitter has often found himself in contention at these challenging U.S. Open tracks, finishing inside the top-6 in five of his last seven attempts. The top-ranked player in the world probably has a little more missed cut equity than many of his counterparts in this range, but I am throwing one final haymaker to try and end this fight before it gets to the final rounds. If it misses, the gas tank is empty, and I am going to have to survive a 3-on-1 onslaught.

Yearly Earnings - $7,468,297

Yearly Cuts Made - 19/23

Josh Bennett - Collin Morikawa

Alternate - Louis Oosthuizen

Elite ball-strikers tend to always shine in majors, so I’m leaning towards arguably the best ball-striker on the planet for this event. I’m throwing his putting out of the window, it should matter less in an event where everyone will have their issues putting. Although he doesn’t have the length off-the-tee that I’d prefer for this long of a course, what he does with his irons will more than makeup for what he lacks in distance. He’s more accurate from 200 yards than many of his peers are from much closer which is a huge advantage here. He’s going to hit more greens and give himself a lot more chances for birdies and easy pars than his competition who will be doing more hacking it out of the thick rough around the greens than rolling putts. This major in particular will reward the great ball-strikers, so it’s a no-brainer to pick Collin here.

Yearly Earnings - $3,175,085

Yearly Cuts Made - 16/23

Andrew Putters - Viktor Hovland

Alternate - Xander Schauffele

I’ve been saving this pick for this exact moment. Like I said this week on “The Turn”

SG Off the Tee is the most important stat this week. This guy Is an absolute beast off the tee. He was right in the thick of it back in February, and the conditions this week are going to be extremely difficult. This factor helps the case for Viktor even more. I personally can not wait for this week to start, and Viktor is a great play against the field.
