Below you will find our fantasy football injuries report for running backs in Week 16. The injury statuses for various NFL running backs are up in the air for Week 16 including Austin Ekeler, Joe Mixon, Antonio Gibson, D'Andre Swift and Miles Sanders.
With the fantasy football playoffs going on, and NFL teams fighting for their own playoff positions, these are some key running back injuries to keep track of throughout the week.
Joe Mixon Injury Update
Joe Mixon has been nursing an ankle injury and there have been questions about his availability for Week 16. But Mixon has practiced in full all week, and does not appear on the Bengals final injury report. This isn't considered to be a serious injury, and Mixon is a safe start for fantasy football managers.
D'Andre Swift Injury Update
UPDATE: On Sunday morning D'Andre Swift was officially ruled out for Week 16.
Breakout running back D'Andre Swift has been out since Thanksgiving with a shoulder injury, and many expected his season to be over. But surprisingly Swift has returned to limited practices in Week 16, and is now being listed as questionable on the Lions final injury report. The matchup is right against Atlanta, but Jamaal Williams and an emerging Craig Reynolds are also in the mix.
Austin Ekeler Injury Update
UPDATE: On Saturday afternoon, Austin Ekeler announced that he is out this week's game after testing positive again for COVID-19.
Austin Ekeler has had a monster season for both the Chargers and fantasy football managers, but he was placed on the COVID-19 earlier in the week. As of now there is still no update on whether he has officially been ruled out, but fantasy managers should be making alternate plans. Ekeler could still clear COVID protocols in time to suit up, so check back for further updates.
Antonio Gibson Injury Update
It seems Antonio Gibson has been banged up all season long, and Week 16 is no different. This week he is dealing with a toe injury, and has officially been listed as questionable for the Cowboys game this Sunday. We'd expect Gibson to play, but if he's out then Jaret Patterson can make for a sneaky pickup and start for fantasy football managers.
James Conner Injury Update
UPDATE: On Saturday afternoon, it was announced that James Conner has been ruled out for the Week 16 game against the Colts.
James Conner is dealing with a heel injury in Week 16, and has not practiced this week. But Conner also feels confident that he'll be able to play in Week 16 against the Colts, even though coach Kliff Kingsbury referred to him as a game-time decision. With Chase Edmonds back and seemingly healthy, both RBs make for riskier RB2/FLEX options for fantasy football managers.
Miles Sanders Injury Update
Miles Sanders is dealing with a quad injury after last week's game against the Washington Football Team. Sanders has not practiced this week, and is also dealing with a short week of rest, due to the Tuesday game against WFT. With that being said, Sanders is expected to play against the Giants in Week 16. He may be limited, which would yield more touches for Jordan Howard, so be sure to check back for any further updates before game time.
Rhamondre Stevenson Injury Update
On Friday afternoon, Rhamondre Stevenson was placed on the COVID-19 list and has been ruled out for the Week 16 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Damien Harris has been dealing with a hamstring injury as well, but has been practicing all week so he's expected to play this week. Brandon Bolden should be involved for the Patriots RB rotation as well, mostly on passing-down situations.
