ANALYSIS: Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Kole Calhoun had his power breakout season last year when he hit a career-high 33 home runs. So far, he's carried that power breakout into 2020. Through his first 24 games of 2020, Calhoun slashed .239/.330/.534 with 7 home runs and 18 RBI. His .864 OPS over that stretch is over 100 points higher than his career OPS of .749.
Calhoun has made a gradual improvement on his power game over the years. His barrel rate increased from 5.4% in 2017 to 9.3% in 2018 to 11.2% in 2019. Through 24 games this year, he continued that improvement with a barrel rate of 12.3%.
Calhoun has primarily hit first or second in the Diamondbacks' order this month, which greatly increases his fantasy value, giving him a high amount of plate appearances. He's worth adding in all 12 team leagues and NL-only leagues where he's available. In more shallow leagues, take a look at him if you're in dire need for outfield help or if you have a slumping outfielder who needs to be replaced.
