5 years agoMinnesota Timberwolves guard D'Angelo Russell said that he feels welcomed and embraced by the organization and the fans. “For me to come here, this feels more at home to me,” says Russell. He posted career highs in both rebounds and steals during his brief stint with the Wolves before the league went on hiatus. It's unclear if this pace will continue, but it sounds like Russell is happy in Minnesota. It'll be interesting to see how Russell plays alongside his friend Karl-Anthony Towns.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

3 years agoMinnesota Timberwolves guard D'Angelo Russell mentioned that he'd love to sign an extension with the organization. The 26-year-old said that he'd like to get a deal done before the season begins. He is entering the final year of his deal, which carries a base salary of $31 million. It seems likely that Wolves would want to keep Russell considering they added superstar center Rudy Gobert already. The front office likely wants to keep all their studs on the roster, but sometimes that isn't possible. It remains to be seen if the two sides will come to terms on a deal this offseason.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

3 years agoMinnesota Timberwolves guard D'Angelo Russell has been rumored to be on the move ever since Tim Connelly agreed to become the president of basketball operations. However, while serious trade discussion haven't occurred, talks are expected to intensify ahead of Thursday's NBA Draft. The 26-year-old averaged 18.1 points in 2021-22, his lowest since his first season in Brooklyn in 2017. He did produce a career-high 7.1 assists. Yet, he shot just 34% from deep, the second-worst mark as a professional. Nonetheless, Russell has proven he can be an impactful fantasy option, so managers shouldn't dismiss him. Yet, regardless of where the former Buckeye suits up this year, he'll need to remain healthy, which continues to be an issue, and his shooting percentages also much to improve.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller

3 years agoMinnesota Timberwolves guard D'Angelo Russell has been rumored to be on the move for quite some time. Yet, trade rumblings have intensified since the Wolves hired Tim Connelly to serve as the president of basketball operations. Unquestionably, the Knicks have been targeting Jalen Brunson. Still, Russell could be considered a backup option if a deal with Brunson doesn't come to fruition. The 26-year-old finished the 2021-22 campaign by averaging 18.1 points, 7.1 assists, and 1.0 steals while shooting a miserable 34% from deep, the lowest mark of his career. While anything can happen regarding Russell's future in Minnesota, a chance of scenery could benefit him, even more so in New York, a team that's desperate for a consistent presence in the backcourt. However, he will have to stay healthy to be of any benefit to fantasy managers, something that's been an issue throughout his career.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller

3 years agoMinnesota Timberwolves point/shooting guard D'Angelo Russell returned from a two-game absence to deliver a 29-point performance in Tuesday's Play-In Tournament victory over the Clippers. Russell ran the show for Minnesota, shooting an efficient 10-for-18 overall, while adding six assists, five rebounds, three made triples, and three steals. The scoring output marks his highest since Feb. 24, as he took on a larger offensive role with Karl-Anthony Towns battling foul trouble. Next up for the T-Wolves is Game 1 of the Western Conference playoffs vs. Memphis, which plays right into Russell's hands after a tremendous four-game stretch against the Grizzlies in the regular season, which included an average of 31 points and 6.8 assists per game, all while shooting 55.8% overall and 46.3% from behind the arc.--Jesse Borek
