5 years agoNew York Mets starter Steven Matz allowed a run in the second inning of Wednesday night's game against the Atlanta Braves and then proceeded to retire 14 consecutive batters. The 28-year-old played his role in a proper pitcher's duel, striking out five and allowing just two hits in six inning of work. After batting in the seventh, however, he was removed before the bottom of the seventh, despite just 79 pitches. The ensuing pitcher would go on to blow a slim lead the offense had picked up. Matz's record remains 7-7, while his ERA stands at 4.33.--RDelgado
