One and Done Selections - 3M Open
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters, Owen Vrabel, Matt Miller and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!
Joe Nicely - Tony Finau
Alternate - Brendan Steele
It’s not exactly original to fire up Tony Finau in a weak 3M Open event, but after checking the running totals for this OAD contest it will actually be a unique pick as most of the other guys have already used Finau at some point this season. His track record at TPC Twin Cities is strong - he arguably should have won this event in 2020 - and his form has been rock solid as of late.
Yearly Earnings - $7,025,208
Yearly Cuts Made - 22/28
Josh Bennett - Nick Hardy
Alternate - Hideki Matsuyama
Headed quite a ways down the board with this pick, but I am really liking it. Hardy has been playing some fantastic golf on the Tour this year (as well as the KFT) and I think even though his odds and DFS pricing don't show it, he's a top player in this field. He hasn't finished worse than 35th in his last 4 starts and 2 of them were top 15 finishes. There's no fatigue or jet lag concerns from last week, he should be rested and ready to go. He's one of the longer hitters in the field which will be helpful and in the last 10 rounds he's gained strokes in every major category, the best being off-the-tee which again, is important for this week. I really like Hardy's chances and I think he will be a pretty unique pick here as well.

Spencer Aguiar - Hideki Matsuyama
Alternate - Ryan Palmer
Can anyone catch Owen after we all failed to make up ground on him at the Open Championship? Probably not. But I will play this as a simple math game and go with Hideki Matsuyama, a golfer I would ideally like to use before the season closes in a few weeks.
Matsuyama ranks first in my model for upside, which provides some hope that a top-end showing is in the cards, and his first-place grade at TPC tracks only adds to that excitement.

Matt Miller - Cam Davis
Alternate -
Yearly Earnings - $5,976,572

Andrew Putters - Cam Davis
Alternate - Matthew NeSmith
Cam ranks second in my model this week. He grades high on SG approach and par 5 scoring. He came up a little short last week. I believe that will not be the case in Minnesota at the TPC Twin Cities. I can not wait to watch this week’s action. Cam Smith is definitely my guy.
