How absurd is the RotoBaller OAD contest this season? Half the field is over 1.5 million after three events. The other portion is averaging about $100,000 per cash - a respectable total when you have a limited field worth of entries. If the early season results are any indication, we should be in for an incredible 2022 campaign.
I was fortunate enough last week to get myself back in the game with an aggressive selection of Scottie Scheffler at the Waste Management Open, and I am going to go back down that road here again at the Genesis Invitational of trying to zig while others zag.
Look, I know Dustin Johnson will be the most popular play of the week, and there isn't any real reason to argue against it when we ignore the popularity. Johnson has posted 10 top-16 finishes over his 12 attempts, including a 2017 win after three top-four results in a row before that performance, but I think I can once again take an aggressive stance on Xander Schauffele, who is the first player to grade number one inside of the upside portion of my model during an event Jon Rahm was entered in since the Players Championship last year. The golfer in that go-around at TPC Sawgrass was Justin Thomas - the eventual winner of the week - and I will continue to trust my numbers here as I try to maneuver my way through the board in a contrarian fashion.

The desperation is getting real over here. Spencer 'the OAD king' is coming in hot after his win with Scottie Scheffler at the WM Phoenix open last week. This is Rory's first start on the PGA Tour since his victory at the CJ Cup in November, and although we haven't seen him stateside, he has played decently abroad. Rory loves playing challenging courses, and that is certainly what we have this week at Riviera Country Club. Even though he missed the cut at the venue last year, in Rory's four other appearances at the Genesis, he's been inside the top-20, with two top-five showings. I LOVE RORY this week and am expecting a great chance at him winning this week.
Yearly Earnings - $344,231
Yearly Cuts Made - 4/5
Josh Bennett - Dustin Johnson
Alternate - Cam Smith
Yearly Earnings - $523,753
Yearly Cuts Made - 4/5
Andrew Putters - Dustin Johnson
Alternate - Viktor Hovland
This week there are several tools a player is going to need in the bag to get it done. Great driving this week is a must, good iron play, and distance off the tee. Dustin Johnson won here back in 2017, and I can easily see him doing it again this year. While he is not exactly on a roll like we like to see him on when playing him in the OAD, we have seen some good results leading up to now. Dustin Johnson gets it done this week at Riviera.
