One and Done Selections - Wyndham Championship

In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters, Owen Vrabel, Matt Miller and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Joe Nicely - Sungjae Im

The clock is ticking on this contest, and while I haven’t done the math, my back-of-the-napkin calculations tell me that I need to do something pretty special - and get lucky - to have any chance of catching Owen. I have a small opening this week and have hopes of making a dent, as Sungjae Im is off the board for Owen - and everyone else in this contest - but still available to me.

While I have great affection for Sungjae due to his #GrindLife mentality, ability to walk the earth looking for golf tournaments like a modern-day Caine in Kung Fu, and penchant for snacking on full-size Snickers bars mid-round; I rarely seem to be “all in” on him. That all changes this week, as I need nothing less than a victory from the kid that has already posted two top-10 finishes across his three career trips to the Wyndham. C’mon Sungjae, take this one down and the Snickers are on me!

The run of defending the RotoBaller OAD title has ended after a complete failure from my picks the last few months of doing anything on the weekend, but we will try to close the contest with a respectable run.
Bezuidenhout ranks seventh in this field from 150-175 yards - a range that will see nearly 30% of the shots, and while that is a noteworthy amount for the South African to hone in on for the week, my intrigue stems from his combination of accuracy and putting.

Matt Miller - J.T. Poston

This week I'm going with The Postman! Poston enters with a 1st, 2nd and 11th place finish in three of his last four starts. How's that for good form? He's also a past champ at Sedgefield Country Club.

When we dive deeper into the stats, Poston has gained on average over two strokes on approach and three strokes putting over his last five starts. That puts him 25th in the field on approach over his last 36 rounds and sixth in putting. He is also first in the field over his last 36 rounds in par 4 efficiency between 400-450 yards. Considering eight of the par 4s this week fall in that range, it seems like Poston is the perfect fit.

While the winner this week is likely going to have to get to 20 under or lower, I like the fact that Poston can heat up and go low. He just won the John Deere at -21 and in his previous win here at the Wyndham he got to -22. When his putter gets going, he's one of the best in the field with the flat stick. I look forward to the Postman staying hot this week and delivering on Sunday.
