Day'Ron Sharpe Has Double-Double On Sunday
2 years agoBrooklyn Nets center Day'Ron Sharpe finished Sunday's Summer League victory over Philadelphia with a double-double. He had 13 points, going 5-for-10 from the field while adding 11 boards. He also got after it on the defensive end, amassing three steals and two blocks. Nonetheless, the 20-year-old certainly looked fantastic in this one. However, he will have trouble finding a consistent spot in the rotation when the regular season begins in October, assuming he suits up for the Nets once again. At the same time, if an injury or trade transpires at some point moving ahead, he may see a bump in minutes, although he has a way to go before becoming vital to the success of fantasy enthusiasts.Source: ESPN
Cam Thomas Impressive In Summer League
2 years agoBrooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas led all scorers in the win over Philly on Sunday during Summer League action. Thomas had 26 points while adding seven assists, three boards, and two steals. Although he shot a rough 5-for-17 from the field, he certainly made up for it by sinking all 15 free throw tries. The 20-year-old made sporadic appearances throughout his rookie season. However, he displayed flashes of promise during his limited time on the floor. Thomas will likely not only secure a spot on the depth chart for Brooklyn heading into the regular season, but he may also get a bump in responsibilities, especially if the team moves on from Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.Source: ESPN
Bennedict Mathurin Has Rough Shooting Day In Loss
2 years agoIndiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin finished Sunday's loss to Sacramento with 15 points while adding three rebounds and one assist. Yet, despite being one of the top scorers, he shot a rough 6-for-16 from the field and 1-for-4 from downtown. Nonetheless, the No. 6 overall selection of the 2022 NBA Draft has received plenty of work throughout the Summer League. However, Mathurin will need all the action he can get as he may be in line for a prominent role right off the bat come the regular season.Source: ESPN
Keegan Murray Scores 23 Points In Win
2 years agoSacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray was the leading scorer during the Summer League win over Indiana on Sunday. The No. 4 overall pick had 23 points and added three assists and two rebounds. However, he shot a rough 4-for-12 from deep and got himself into foul trouble. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old has Rookie of the Year potential, especially since he may receive plenty of minutes as a starter when the season begins in October. While Domantas Sabonis and De'Aaron Fox will likely continue to do most of the heavy lifting throughout 2022-23, Murray should be a reliable fantasy contributor.Source: ESPN
Danilo Gallinari Agrees To Guaranteed Deal With Boston
2 years agoFree-agent forward Danilo Gallinari agreed to a two-year, $13.3 million deal with Boston. The veteran was included in the package that sent Dejounte Murray to Atlanta. However, he was waived by the Spurs shortly after. Gallinari's contract is fully guaranteed, and he also has a player option for the second year. The 33-year-old averaged 11.7 points and shot 38.1% from deep last season. Nonetheless, he may not be a consistent fantasy producer this season, and his health also hasn't been the best over the years. Yet, with Al Horford expected to get additional rest in 2022-23, Gallinari should have sporadic streaming value.Source: Adrian Wojnarowski
Eric Gordon Still "A Lock" To Be Moved
2 years agoHouston Rockets guard Eric Gordon is "a lock" to be traded, according to ESPN's Zach Lowe. The franchise is hoping to secure a first-round pick for the veteran, who is coming off a 2021-22 season where he averaged a career-low 13.4 points. However, the 33-year-old shot 41.2% from deep, the second-best mark since entering the league in 2008. Nonetheless, Gordon's fantasy upside is limited if he remains in Houston. But his potential could rise if he ends up elsewhere in 2022-23. His efficient shooting percentage from behind the arc should also benefit category managers, assuming he mirrors the production of previous seasons.Source: Zach Lowe
Kevin Porter Jr., Rockets Talking Extension
2 years agoHouston Rockets guard/forward Kevin Porter Jr. is hoping to sign an extension. Both sides are currently in the preliminary stage of discussions. However, considering Porter has had issues surrounding his conduct dating back to his collegiate days at USC, some within the organization aren't interested in keeping him. Unquestionably, the 22-year-old has more than enough talent to justify a new deal. He's averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 assists, 3.9 boards, and 1.0 steals since entering the league in 2019. He can also play multiple positions, which is never bad for fantasy managers. Yet, Porter's shooting numbers aren't the best, and he's seemingly always one wrong move away from being suspended.Source: Zach Lowe
Dario Saric Is Progressing Well
2 years agoPhoenix Suns forward Dario Saric (knee) is reportedly eyeing a return to the court during training camp. The 28-year-old forward is making solid progress following ACL surgery that forced him to miss all of the 2021 season. Prior to the injury, Saric played a consistent role off the bench for the Suns. The hope is that he'll be able to make a significant impact once again. Phoenix already lost JaVale McGee in free agency and Deandre Ayton appears to be heading towards the exit door. That being said, Saric could see legitimate playing time next season, assuming he can stay healthy. Possibly, Saric is an interesting late-round option on draft day.Source: Gerald Bourguet
Usman Garuba To Miss Summer League
2 years agoHouston Rockets forward Usman Garuba (ankle) will miss the rest of the summer league. The young forward suffered a sprained right ankle, which will force him to the sideline. The 21-year-old played 10 minutes per game across 24 contests last season. It's unlikely that his minutes are going to rise heading into next season. The Rockets used the No. 3 overall pick to select forward Jabari Smith Jr. in the most recent NBA Draft. The departure of Christian Wood might open up a few minutes for Garuba off the bench. He did have a 14 rebound game last season. However, it would likely take a few injuries for Garuba to get legitimate minutes in the rotation next season.Source: Jonathan Feigen
James Wiseman To Make Summer League Debut
2 years agoGolden State Warriors center James Wiseman (knee) will make his summer league debut on Saturday. The former No. 2 pick has not played since his rookie season in 2020. Wiseman has worked hard to get back on the court following knee surgery. The expectation is that the Warriors are going to be extremely cautious with Wiseman. They will likely ease him back into action this summer. Hopefully, Wiseman will be able to make an impact on the Warriors this season. He'll likely have to split minutes at the center spot with Kevon Looney. That being said, it could be tough for either player to have consistent fantasy value next season.Source: Anthony Slater
Jaden Ivey Forced To Exit Early
2 years agoDetroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey (ankle) was forced to exit early during Saturday's summer league matchup. Ivey had 11 points and two assists during the first five minutes of this game. Sadly, Ivey rolled his ankle which knocked him out of this contest. The No. 5 overall pick has looked sharp, so hopefully this doesn't cause him to miss significant time. The expectation is that Ivey will undergo an MRI on Sunday. Fantasy managers will have to wait until later on Sunday for another update on Ivey.Source: James Edwards III
Paolo Banchero Walking With A Limp
2 years agoOrlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero (ankle) was seen walking with a noticeable limp after Saturday's contest against the Sacramento Kings. The top overall pick asked to see a trainer following his postgame interview. Luckily, the Magic don't play again until Monday, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Magic be extremely cautious with Banchero. The Magic saw a mixed bag from Banchero on Saturday. He dropped 23 points, but also had eight turnovers during Saturday's contest. Luckily, there is still plenty of time for the young forward to work out his issues.Source: Tomer Azarly
Collin Gillespie Packs Stat Sheet During Summer League
2 years agoDenver Nuggets point guard Collin Gillespie recorded an impressive all-around showing in Friday's Summer League loss to the Timberwolves. Tying for the team high with 30 minutes played, Gillespie did not record a turnover and compiled 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Another point guard to come from the Villanova ranks, Gillespie is looking to crack a substantial Denver backcourt mix, which is set to be spearheaded by the returning Jamal Murray. A three-time All-Big East selection and NCAA champion in college, the undrafted 23-year-old would stand to be a solid provider of assists should he garner meaningful minutes during the regular season.Source: ESPN
Christian Braun Drops Team-High 18 Points In Summer League
2 years agoDenver Nuggets shooting guard Christian Braun delivered a team-best 18-point performance in Friday's Summer League loss to Minnesota. Braun shot just 1-for-7 from long range, but he took a team-leading 17 shots, making eight. In addition to the scoring, he snatched six rebounds and dished out three assists, showcasing the all-around appeal that he could bring to the Denver rotation. The 21-year-old was chosen with the 21st overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and head coach Michael Malone has already conceded that the rookie could play minutes off the bench to begin the year. While his redraft ceiling remains capped, Braun's dynasty league stock trends upward with each impressive showing.Source: ESPN
Scotty Pippen Jr. Notches Team-High 19-Point Showing
2 years agoLos Angeles Lakers point guard Scotty Pippen Jr. delivered a team-best 19 points during Friday's Summer League defeat to Phoenix. Pippen played 24 minutes, but packed the stat sheet during his time on the floor with four rebounds, three assists and three steals (while also turning the ball over five times). The rookie averaged 20.6 PPG over the past two seasons at Vanderbilt, where he was a two-time All-SEC selection. He faces an uphill path to making the Lakers' roster as an undrafted free agent, but he possesses a pro pedigree and impressive offensive arsenal that could make him an option for a franchise in 2022-23.Source: ESPN
