2 years agoWashington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz (head, knee) is back behind the plate and is hitting fifth on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs and left-hander Drew Smyly. Ruiz was beat up behind the dish in the game on Monday and was given Tuesday off, but he's back in there on Wednesday. He also came off the bench on Tuesday to go 1-for-2 with a walk, so he's fine. The 24-year-old backstop is hitting a modest .244/.305/.351 with six home runs, 30 RBI, 26 runs scored and five stolen bases in 368 plate appearances over 94 games in his first full season for the Nats. So far in August, Ruiz has struggled to a .217 average (10-for-46) with three home runs, seven RBI and three runs scored in 15 games played.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
