2 years agoNew York Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes (groin) is expected to be placed on the 15-day injured list with a groin injury, according to sources. Right-handed reliever Greg Weissert will be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. Right-hander Clarke Schmidt was called up from the minors earlier this week after he was stretched out to a starter's workload, so he could be an option to replace Cortes in the starting rotation. The 27-year-old southpaw has been excellent for the Yankees in 2022, going 9-4 with a 2.68 ERA (3.41 FIP), 0.96 WHIP, 133 strikeouts and 30 walks in 131 innings over 23 starts.
