Nick Vannett Might Be Expendable
2 years agoNew Orleans Saints tight end Nick Vannett is a trade/cut candidate with training camp nearing an end, according to league sources. Vannett averaged over 30 snaps per game last year in New Orleans, but he's now part of a position battle with Adam Trautman, Taysom Hill, Juwan Johnson, J.P. Holtz and Lucas Krull. The majority of his preseason work has come in the second and third quarters, with Holtz the only other tight end to see work late in a preseason game. But if rookie Trevor Penning starts at left tackle in 2022, the Saints may want an experienced blocking tight end like Vannett around. The 29-year-old caught nine of 15 targets for 133 yards and one touchdown in just seven games in 2021, and he's well off the fantasy radar.
