Sam Darnold Expected To Be Out 4-6 Weeks
2 years agoCarolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold (ankle) is expected to be out four to six weeks after suffering a high-ankle sprain to his left ankle in the team's preseason finale on Friday against the Buffalo Bills, according to sources. He will receive a second opinion. The 25-year-old had to be carted off the field on Friday. With rookie Matt Corral (foot) already on season-ending Injured Reserve, P.J. Walker will now enter the 2022 regular season as Baker Mayfield's backup. Darnold fell flat as the starter in 2021 and also battled injuries, leading the Panthers to trade for Mayfield this offseason. Mayfield will be a low-end QB2 for fantasy managers in deeper leagues, but his leash will be longer now with Darnold sidelined to begin the year.
