Jimmy Garoppolo Staying With 49ers
2 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo agreed to a restructured one-year deal on Monday to keep him with the team this year, according to sources. The contract contains no-trade and no-tag clauses, assuring that he'll remain with the 49ers in 2022 and have the freedom to leave in 2023. The Niners made it abundantly clear that second-year QB Trey Lance is their starter, but no trade partners emerged for Garoppolo this offseason while he recovered from shoulder surgery. The 30-year-old's base salary will be lowered to $6.5 million fully guaranteed this year, but he'll have a chance to make $10 million more in incentives. Garoppolo will be a high-end backup for Lance this year, and he'd be in play as a QB2 in superflex leagues if Lance misses time with an injury.
