Darren Waller Looks To Profit With One Less Mouth To Feed
5 years agoIn the wake of the Antonio Brown release, the Oakland Raiders will look to feed the ball more often to their new starting tight end, Darren Waller. His large 6-foot-6 stature, combined with his tremendous athletic ability, pegged him as a sleeper prior to this development, but now he may become a more featured option, especially in the red zone. The former Georgia Tech wideout is also filling the gaping hole left behind by Jared Cook, quarterback Derek Carr's favorite 2018 weapon. Cook soaked up a team-high 68 receptions and 101 targets last season, including 16 in the red zone, twice as many as any other Oakland player. Waller could post low-end TE1 numbers versus the Broncos on Monday night in a tough matchup, but he'll undoubtedly find tremendous success in future matchups.
