Below you will find our Premium DFS value plays for 9/8/2021. These picks will target low-priced players in the main slate.
We have a 9-game slate on tap tonight, and it is not a great one. The pitching is not great as we have some good dams, but they are in tough matchups or have been struggling of late. When Nate Eovaldi and Frankie Montas are some of the top pay-up spots, that is not great. The best pitcher on the slate may be Adam Wainwright, and he even has a tough matchup versus the Dodgers. On the flip side, there are bats for days once again. I will be focusing my attention on the A's and Braves, but there are arguments for so many, including the Cubs, who will bring some nice value to my builds. It will be an exciting night, so give MLB DFS Quick Hits a listen to get a rundown of the entire 9-game slate.
These are daily outlier value plays or lesser thought-of guys. They usually lay outside of the main pool of players that folks would be considering but could vary based on that day's games and lineups. These players can be low-cost with good matchups, surprise starters with good matchups, and very cheap hitters.
Top Value Plays of the Day for 9/8/2021
Frank Schwindel- 1B, CHC vs. Vladimir Gutierrez (FD $3800, DK $3500)
The price tag continues to creep up slowly, but Schwindel remains too cheap (at least on DK) for his production. Since taking over the everyday first base role on August 3rd, Schwindel has played in 33 games, hitting safely in 28 of those games. Schwindel is hitting .365 with a .317 ISO and 1.095 OPS. He is crushing it with 19 extra-base hits, including 10 home runs. He's barreling the ball 10% of the time with a 45% hard-hit rate and hits second for the Cubs, which means plenty of chances for run production. He faces Gutierrez tonight, who has allowed nine runs over his last two starts (6.1 IP) with three home runs. On the season, Gutierrez is allowing RHH to hit .280 with a .450 SLG and over 1.2 HR/9. The Cups are a solid stack tonight, and pairing Schwindel with Rafael Ortega, Ian Happ, Matt Duffy, and others is quite affordable with the value they bring.
Austin Hays - OF, BAL vs. Mike Minor (FD $2800, DK $3100)
Hays is on quite the heater right now, and no one is really talking about it. He enters tonight's action on a 14-game hitting streak where he is hitting .373. Hays has eight extra-base hits to go with a .294 ISO and a 1.074 OPS. He takes on Minor tonight, and that bodes well as Hays has been crushing LHP this season. He is hitting .302 with a .222 ISO and .866 OPS. Hays has been mashing and gets a great matchup tonight. He has been hitting in the middle of the Orioles lineup, which is also a great source of value. Like the Cubs, the Orioles bring a lot of value tonight, thanks to players like Hays, Anthony Santander, Pedro Severino, and others.
Bobby Dalbec- 1B/3B, BOS vs. Shane McClanahan (FD $2500, DK $3400)
Dalbec has found his swing the way a great singer finds his voice. We have been waiting for Bobby Dingers to be a thing, and it finally is a thing. Dalbec has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games, good for a .378 average. He has been mashing the ball with nine extra-base hits, including six home runs. He has a .568 ISO and 1.413 OPS. Dalbec is destroying the ball in his quality of contact backs that up with a 29.6% barrel rate and 59.3% hard-hit rate over the last 11 games. Dalbec even lowered his strikeout rate to 23.3% while walking nearly 15% of the time. He is doing it all and gets a matchup versus the lefty Shane O'Mac tonight. McClanahan has been solid this year but has been hit around from time to time, including his last start. Let's hope Dalbec can stay hot at a discount, especially that sweet price on FanDuel.
Edmundo Sosa- SS, STL vs. Mitch White (FD $2500, DK $2800)
The Cardinals' offense has been one of the more inconsistent things in baseball this season, but you cannot blame Sosa for this problem. He comes into tonight's action hitting safely in nine of his last 11 games for a .389 average. He has five extra-base hits, a .306 ISO, and a 1.123 OPS. Sosa has even added a stolen base to the mix. He has been hitting sixth or seventh most days, which is not too shabby for his price tag. Tonight he faces White, who has allowed seven runs over his three starts (11 IP), including a home run in each start. Sosa and the Cardinals are not lock it in type plays, but they make for some nice value, and a great contrarian look tonight.
Tyler Naquin - OF, CIN at Alec Mills (FD $2900, DK $2900)
Naquin has cooled down quite a bit from that insane heater he was on but still swinging it well with a base hit last night. Since August 1, he is still hitting .364 with a .313 ISO and a 1.104 OPS. He is still hitting second for the Reds and priced far too cheap for his production and the potential production he brings hitting near the top of the order in the New Big Red Machine. He will face Mills tonight, who has allowed 12 runs in his last three starts, including three home runs in just his last start. On the season, LHH have really got to Mills as they are hitting .306 with a .588 SLG and 1.4 HR/9. The Reds are a great place to stack tonight, and Naquin is a locked-in value in those stacks. He should also be thought about as value one-offs in cash and Gpp lineups as well.
