Welcome to RotoBaller's continued coverage of League of Legends DFS for FanDuel and DraftKings. Hopefully, you've been following our coverage of the LPL, LEC, and LCS as well as we intend to cover all LoL leagues for the Summer split. Today, I am focusing on the 5-game LEC slate that has contests available on both FanDuel and DraftKings.
My name is James Swindell and I will be your new source for all things LEC DFS related! I have been involved with Esports for many years, but I am relatively new to League of Legends. That being said, I do my homework and have put a lot of time into studying LoL. I will put my best effort into bringing you all the most accurate information and predictions each week. G2 looks to bounce back after last week's poor performance, SK Gaming attempts to solidify themselves as a potential playoff contender, and Fnatic will try to continue their hot streak. League of Legends DFS Basics
Since LEC contests are being offered on both FanDuel and DraftKings, it's important to note some pricing discrepancies from site to site, but the roster slots, scoring, and roster construction rules are almost entirely identical with the only exception being that FanDuel forces you to roster at least one player (or team slot) from a third team, while you can play only two teams among your seven roster slots on DraftKings.
- Once a match starts, anything can happen. Usually, the better teams are very consistent. Be sure to check the player pool carefully and try to craft a roster of players who have been playing recently or do not have listed backups.
- Stacking in LoL DFS lineups is paramount. 4-3 stacks are the order of the day (on DraftKings) with 3-3-1 or 4-2-1 are becoming more popular (and necessary on FanDuel) as people try to differentiate their lineups in these suddenly large-field GPPs.
- In LoL DFS, it is very important to focus on players from winning teams. Think in terms of baseball, one side of the matchup is like a pitcher and the other side the batter. This means there is a very negative correlation between teams in the same match. Players score by accumulating kills, which costs the other side points in deaths. Just like earned runs bring down your pitcher’s score.
- Along with this another mistake I see beginners making is trusting average scoring. Players' scoring potential is only realized in games that are won. If player X averages 50 DKP, that likely comes from scoring 70 in a 2-0 win and 30 in an 0-2 defeat. What this means is that someone who looks like a value at $4800 suddenly might not end up being such a great point-per-dollar play.
- Finally, you're going to want to do your best you fill your captain slot with an ADC or MID. Depending on which teams and players you decide to stack that might not be feasible. The order of preference for your captain slot is generally ADC, MID, JNG, TOP, SUP. Some players in some positions may stand out above the others so consider stats like kill share before you make your final decision.
Rogue (-245) vs. Team Vitality (+175): DFS Targets
Rogue (RGE) looked exceptionally strong over the weekend, finishing atop the division along with Fnatic at 3-0. Team Vitality (VIT) surprised many fans by upsetting G2 Esports and finishing the weekend at a solid 2-1 record. Rogue boasts a league-best 16.0 kills/game while Team Vitality is fourth averaging 11.0 kills/game.
Hans sama has been one of the brightest stars for Rogue this season and his numbers speak for themselves, he is sporting an incredible 17.0 K/D/A (kills/deaths/assists) through the first 3 games. Hans Sama has been one of the best ADC in the league thus far. Team Vitality’s Cabochard impressed in the top lane with an 8.3 K/D/A and a 79.1 KP% (kill participation percentage). Cabochard doesn't necessarily have an easy matchup, but he held his own against G2's Wunder, proving he can compete with the best top-laners in Europe.
This game looks like a great value for GPP (guaranteed prize pool) stacks because both teams are filled with strong individual performers. The game should have a good amount of kills, assists, and players with high cs (creep score) due to the nature of both team's style of play. These teams will farm in the early game and feed their ADC roles to help them snowball into the late-game. Look for this matchup to be high octane with plenty of team fights and the potential for huge scoring.
Rogue Plays: Hans sama, Larssen VandeR
Team Vitality Plays: Cabochard, Comp
Misfits (-190) vs. SK Gaming (+145): DFS Targets
Both Misfits (MSF) and SK Gaming (SK) had some strong showings over their three games week one, but unfortunately, there were some less than impressive ones as well. Misfits played a solid game versus a potential worlds contender in Origen. On the other hand, they got dominated in their final game of the weekend by Rogue. SK has to prove they are not the same team that we saw Spring split and last weekend was a step in the right direction.
Kobbe made a splash in his return to the LEC, racking up a K/D/A of 7.0 and proving he can still compete with the best players in the world. SK tends to play a slower and more methodical game, this style of play does not usually translate to DFS scoring for individual players. Crownshot played well in the ADC role, but his kills/game average is only at a 3.0. This is less of a reflection on him as a player and more on the style of gameplay SK is comfortable with.
Be wary of this matchup, so far both teams have been hit or miss and we're looking for consistency. I would fade this game with the exception of Kobbe as a strong one-off play in a 3-3-1 stack or 4-2-1 stack.
Misfits Plays: Kobbe, Febiven
G2 Esports (-700) vs. FCS (+400): DFS Targets
After a disappointing start to the season for G2, they look to bounce back with an excellent matchup against FC Schalke 04 (FCS) who are averaging a league-high 14.3 deaths per game. G2 lacked communication and cohesiveness in their first weekend back from the spring split, but I expect that with more practice during the week and better communication they will come back strong and dominate FCS in this matchup.
Although G2 did not have a strong performance as a team, Caps was one of their bright spots averaging 4 assists per game and a 71.2 KP% as well as a 25.3 DMG% (average share of damage dealt to champions per game) while roaming across the map to support his teammates. Perkz should also score good points at ADC this weekend, G2 should be able to provide him with the support he needs to rack up kills in late-game team fights. FCS did not play well in any of their matchups over the weekend. Look to fade FCS players this week.
The price point of some players on DK and Fanduel has slipped due to the team's performance week one. Don't let an early-season hiccup deter you from playing the premier players of Europe in your lineups. G2 are still the favorites to win the LEC and be strong competitors at worlds.
G2 Plays: Caps, Perkz, Team Slot
Origen (-360) vs. Excel Esports (+245): DFS Targets
Origen (OG) as gotten off to a shaky start to their season falling to 1-2 in the first weekend of the summer split. In spite of their lackluster record, they are still a team to keep an eye on as potential LEC title contenders. Origen managed to pull off a win against G2 and their two losses came against Misfits and Fnatic, who are playoff contenders in their own right. Excel Esports (XL) did not look good in any of their week one matchups.
Alphari was consistent and productive in all three games for Origen, participating in 72.9% of kills while maintaining a 5.5 K/D/A. It is still early in the season and Excel has plenty of time to turn it around, but so far I haven't seen anything to indicate they have good plays for DFS right now. In general, Origen plays a more objective focused style of game so their individual scoring isn't that good, but with good matchups for each player in their respective lanes/jungle, all of Origen's players have the chance to score some points.
Origen is not a team I would usually advocate for in a DFS format, but they have strong players on their roster and the matchup versus XL is too good to pass up. Origen players have a lot of value on sites such as FanDuel who evaluates player pricing based on recent performance. If you want to find some value picks look at this matchup.
Origen Plays: Alphari, Xerxe, Team Slot
Fnatic (-220) vs. Mad Lions (+160): DFS Targets
Both of these teams had easier matchups over the past weekend, but with Fnatic (FNC) at 3-0 and Mad Lions (MAD) at 2-1, they both proved that they capitalize on advantages in favorable matchups. In addition, Fnatic and Mad Lions have played aggressive, team fight oriented compositions so far. It is no surprise that they both rank in the top three of the LEC in kills/game.
It is impossible to talk about the success of Fnatic without mentioning Rekkles. Rekkles was arguably the MVP of the league over the weekend, posting a perfect K/D/A (no deaths) with 15 kills and 18 assists over the 3-game span. Selfmade was also a major key to their success as well, having one of the best weekends out of any jungler in Europe.
MAD and FNC look solid this split, this matchup isn't a cakewalk for Fnatic but after their performance last week it is hard to bet against them. This matchup looks to be a good 2-1 back half on a 4-2-1 stack or it is possible to include players like Carzzy and Shad0w and make this a 3-3-1 stack.
Fnatic Plays: Rekkles, Selfmade
MAD Plays: Orome
Summary
- G2 will bounce back strong this week, they have the best roster in the LEC and a few mistakes early on in the split is nothing to be too concerned about.
- Look for value on DFS sites like Fanduel who are pricing players based on recent performance. Although you will pay a hefty price for players like Rekkles who are on a hot streak, there are tons of potential value picks from teams like Origen or Misfits who struggled week one. If you primarily play on DK, look to snag players who are performing well recently and have good matchups.
- Fade matchups where the outcome on the game is uncertain. With teams that are hot and cold like Mistfits and SK Gaming, it would be better to go with a traditional lineup split with matchups you are confident will be high-scoring i.e. G2, Rogue, or Fnatic
