Top 5 Two-Start Pitcher Targets & Streamers for Week 10

A wise fantasy baseball manager never rests. He is never satisfied with his team and is always on the hunt for the player that can help in both the present and future. For this article, we’ll focus on the present, as we present the top pitcher streamers who’ll be making two outings this week.

We do this every week, because deep down we all know those last two or three guys taken in drafts won’t be with us the whole way through. Mix and match is the name of the game and maximizing these players’ values is the goal. Here are the top five two-start pitching streamers for week ten. NOTE: these are expected starts.

Editor’s Note: RotoBaller’s fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups list is updated every single day. Our awesome writers bring you analysis on hot or emerging starting pitchers, and also all other fantasy positions. You can also download our waiver wire iPhone app for free, and easily stay updated.

Going Twice, Roll The Dice

Tyler Chatwood, COL

@ LAD 6/6, vs SD 6/11

Owned In: 29% of Fleaflicker Leagues

26-year-old Tyler Chatwood is off to a career-best start in 2016 at 6-4 with a 2.99 ERA. While those are terrific numbers, his splits tell the real story. At home, the California native is 2-4 with a 5.30 ERA. Coors Field’s status as a hitter’s park is largely responsible for this, as it leads the National League in park factors for runs, hits and home runs. On the road, however, Chatwood is a spotless 4-0 with an incredible 0.53 ERA. Its pretty astonishing to look at how much his FIP, BABIP and LOB% differ on the road as opposed to home.

His first start this week will be on the road against the Dodgers. While Los Angeles may be a formidable club, Chatwood has already defeated the likes of the Cubs and the Pirates on the road. Expect another quality start as he escapes Coors Field. While he’ll be back at home for his second start of the week, it’ll come against the lowly San Diego Padres and a suddenly struggling James Shields (2-7, 4.28 ERA). Look for a pair of victories for Chatwood as he continues his breakout year.

Michael Fulmer, DET

vs TOR 6/6, @ NYY 6/12

Owned In: 19% of Fleaflicker Leagues

23-year-old rookie Michael Fulmer is a further example of just how incredible the Mets have gotten at cultivating young pitching. Detroit acquired the right-hander in the Yoenis Cespedes trade and after a couple of struggles in the first half of May, he’s really gotten into a groove. Fulmer has won each of his last three starts, going at least seven innings each time with only one run combined in the three outings. In the 22.2 IP during those three performances, he struck out 22, walked just four and surrendered only nine hits.

This combination of command, electric stuff and effectiveness makes Michael Fulmer frightening, and he’ll need every bit of that when he takes on the AL East this week. The key for Fulmer in his first start against the Blue Jays will be Toronto’s penchant for striking out, ranking fourth in the American League. Should Fulmer continue his recent pace, that start should be favorable to him at home. His second start of the week will be on the road against the Yankees. While the club is still known as the Bronx Bombers, they’ve become one of the poorest offenses in the league. Look for Fulmer to continue his impress in his rookie campaign.

Matt Shoemaker, LAA

@ NYY 6/7, vs CLE 6/12

Owned In: 16% of Fleaflicker Leagues

After a highly disappointing 2015 campaign, Matt Shoemaker got off to a similar start in 2016. During the first month of the season, he made five starts, going 1-4, surrendering 22 runs in 20 innings pitcher. Since then, however, something appears to have clicked. Shoemaker has recorded three consecutive quality starts, conceding just four runs in 22.2 innings pitched. His strikeout rates have also risen to incredible levels, picking up 31 over that span.

This week, Shoemaker will make his first start of the week against the aforementioned Yankees, who have developed one of the worst offenses in baseball. Even last year when he wasn’t at his best and New York’s offense was respectable, he limited them to two runs in five and two-thirds innings. His second start of the week will be against the Cleveland Indians, whom he was also effective against last year, holding them scoreless across six innings. If Shoemaker’s resurrection is to be believed, this week should prove another strong one.

Joe Ross, WSH

@ CHW 6/7, vs PHI 6/12

Owned In: 30% of Fleaflicker Leagues

Joe Ross continues to be one of the more impressive young hurlers in the National League. Outside of one outing against the Tigers, he’s allowed three runs or less in each of his other nine starts this season. Most recently, he’s recorded a pair of quality starts, giving up just two runs in 14 innings of work. His K% has slightly lowered and his BB% has slightly increased, but his LOB% has soared to 79.8, while his ERA is down to 2.37 on the season. While he’s been solid at home, he’s been excellent on the road, where he’ll begin his two-start week.

The first outing will come at U.S. Cellular against the Chicago White Sox. While the White Sox have been one of the best teams in the American League recently, they’re fresh off a seven-game losing streak, knocking them down to third in the AL Central. Additionally, Ross’ opposing pitcher, Mat Latos, has begun a steep decline after his fantastic season start, going 2-1 with a 6.41 ERA in May. Look for Ross to pounce with two incredible advantages. His second start of the week will be against the Phillies, who have also begun to collapse as we hit June. Ross has already beat the Phillies in Philadelphia twice this season, so look for him to continue the trend at home.

Aaron Sanchez, TOR

@ DET 6/7, vs BAL 6/12

Owned In: 46% of Fleaflicker Leagues

23-year-old Aaron Sanchez continues to shine for the Toronto Blue Jays after earning a rotation spot out of spring training. After another quality start his last time out, he improved his record to 5-1 on the season with a strong 2.99 ERA. All the signs have pointed to a terrific season, as he’s lowered his BB%, raised his K% and improved his ERA and FIP. Continuing a prevalent theme with this week’s two-start streamers, Sanchez has also been incredible on the road, going 4-0 with a 2.38 ERA.

It’s precisely on the road where he’ll start his week at Comerica Park against the Tigers. Detroit has managed just a .500 record at home, compounding what has been a highly disappointing season. Sanchez has already had impressive road starts, most notably victories in Boston and San Francisco. Expect another solid performance, before he goes back home for a match-up against the Baltimore Orioles. Even if Sanchez isn’t at his best, he should benefit greatly from his opposing pitcher, Ubaldo Jimenez (2-6, 6.59 ERA). Even if he isn't dominant, he may very well earn two victories before the week is through.
