2 years agoHarold Varner III arrives in Canada off six straight made cuts. During that streak, Varner has recorded a sixth-place finish at the Players and a third-place finish at the RBC Heritage. While Varner has played well as of late, he has actually lost strokes off the tee in three straight events. If Varner is going to perform well consistently, he will need to improve that metric. Varner is priced moderately high on DraftKings and is currently projected to be low-owned. He makes for a great sleeper option for GPPs.

2 years agoCorey Conners heads to his home country to contend for the RBC Canadian Open. He is having his best putting year on tour, gaining +0.11 so far this season. He is also gaining around the greens for the first time since turning pro. With a rejuvenated short game aiding his impeccable ball striking there is little to be concerned about heading into the week. He will be a popular play and his high ownership is justified by his recent play. Whether or not he can withstand the pressure of winning a Canadian Open, remains to be seen.

2 years agoLooking for win No. 5 on the season, Scottie Scheffler will tee it up at the RBC Canadian Open this week. Seemingly no course is insurmountable for Scheffler, who has won on varying course layouts this year. He has gained handsomely across all four major statistical categories, with approach play being his biggest weapon so far. At a tight course like St. Georges, precise iron play will be a significant advantage. Scheffler lost to Sam Burns in a playoff two weeks ago, which shows that he has no intentions of taking his foot off the gas anytime soon.

2 years agoLook for Chris Kirk to contend this week at the RBC Canadian Open. Kirk has been a ball-striking machine of late, and last week was the first time he lost strokes from tee to green since August of last year. The 37-year-old lost 5.1 strokes on approach at the Memorial, marking the first time in his last 11 starts that he lost strokes in that category. He has gained strokes off the tee in 14 straight events now. If his putting somewhat cooperates, Kirk should have a chance to bring home a victory.

2 years agoJustin Thomas lost strokes on approach on US soil for the first time since February of 2021. An incredible stretch of iron play came to a screeching halt, losing -4.66 on approach, missing the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge. If we chalk down his performance to what he may have been drinking out of the Wanamaker a few days prior, there is nothing to be concerned about going forward. Expect Thomas to be back to his very best the week before the US Open, with ambitions of winning the event before a major for a third time in his career.

2 years agoThere aren't many golfers playing as well as Sebastian Munoz. He has made the cut in nine straight events, gaining strokes from tee-to-green in all nine starts. He has been particularly good with his irons, gaining strokes on approach in seven of his last nine tournaments. Munoz already has one PGA Tour win under his belt, breaking through at the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2019. He is playing well enough to contend and could be in line for his second career victory. He has the distance to overpower St. George's Golf and Country Club and is capable of contending in a low-scoring event. Over the past 50 rounds, Munoz ranks 12th in the field in birdies made, proving he has the ability to go low. He will be a popular DFS play and will draw some attention on the betting market. Munoz is playing too good right now to be ignored and should be rostered in DFS. He is also worth a look as an outright bet.

2 years agoAaron Rai has been too inconsistent as of late to depend on this week. His T26 finish last week at the Memorial was a product of gaining 8.2 strokes putting, a statistic that will be nearly impossible to duplicate this week at St. Georges. Rai has lost strokes off the tee, around the green and putting in three of his last five starts. The 27-year-old Englishman certainly has some talent but putting it all together appears to be a problem as of late. The last time he gained strokes in all major categories was January at the Farmers Insurance Open.

2 years agoKeith Mitchell has been dialed in this season. He has made the cut in eight of his last 10 events, including an 18th-place finish at the Memorial last week. During that stretch, he has finished in the top 15 five times. The key to Mitchell's hot stretch has been his putting, as he's gained strokes putting in four of his last five events. Mitchell's price tag is a bit high in DFS, which may cause him to go overlooked. He is playing some fantastic golf and could be a very solid play this week. He has also shown the ability to close out events, picking up a win at the Honda Classic in 2019. Mitchell should be rostered in all DFS formats and is a great outright bet if bettors are looking for some value in a top-heavy field.

2 years agoJust when Cameron Champ begins trending in the right direction, he dips back down. Champ has missed the cut in two straight events, failing to qualify for the weekend at the Memorial last week. He had been playing some solid golf before this stretch, posting back-to-back top-10 finishes at the Masters and the Mexico Open earlier this season. Champ's best asset will always be his driver, which makes him an intriguing DFS play at a short course like St. George's Golf and Country Club. The key for Champ will be his around-the-green game. He has lost strokes around the green in his last five events, so minimizing short-game mistakes could be the key this week. His price tag in DFS is a bit high, but the upside with Champ is enticing. He is a worth a look in DFS formats and could be an option for an outright bet if the odds are right.

2 years agoIt has been a rough stretch of golf for Justin Rose. The 2013 U.S. Open champion has missed the cut in four of his last five events. The one cut Rose made during that time was at the PGA Championship, where he finished 13th. Rose hasn't made the cut in back-to-back events since February and doesn't appear to be trending in the right direction. His price in DFS is inflated due to the weak field at the Canadian Open. The price tag is too rich for a player who can't seem to find his form, so his ownership should be quite low. Rose is not an appealing option in DFS or on the betting market. He has not shown enough this season to be counted on.

2 years agoTony Finau heads to Canada this week in sneaky good form. He struggled to start the year but has now gained strokes tee to green in five straight starts, finishing inside the top-41 in all five. During that stretch the Scottsdale native has two top five finishes and looks to have figured things out on the putting surface, an area that held his play back earlier in the season. After losing strokes putting in six of eight events to start the calendar year, Finau has now gained strokes on the green in three straight starts. The 32-year-old is trending in the right direction and is certainly someone to keep an eye on in the upcoming weeks.

2 years agoMatt Fitzpatrick has top-five finishes in two of his last three starts and is still looking for his first PGA Tour win, but that could come this week in Canada. Why is that? Fitzpatrick has been incredible on the greens in his recent stretch. He has gained well over a stroke in two of his last three starts, as well as playing the par-threes in those events at two-under par. On the season, Fitzpatrick is the best on tour in strokes gained total, sitting first overall. Fitzpatrick is also in the top 10 on tour in strokes gained from tee to green and around the green. If Fitzpatrick can keep his putting stroke hot, he'll be a great play this week in all contests.

2 years agoComing off back-to-back T13 finishes at the PGA Championship and the Memorial, Cameron Smith will tee it up again this week in Canada. Anytime Smith tees it up in 2022 he's in contention, and that likely won't stop this week. Although his DFS price is high, Smith isn't the most expensive player in the field this week. Smith has only missed two cuts on the season, which is the same amount of wins he has, along with his five top-10 finishes as well. Sitting inside the top-15 in four of the six major strokes gained categories, Smith is always a great option, and is again this week in Canada.

2 years agoMaking nine of his last 10 cuts, C.T. Pan will look for another this week in Canada. A reason for his success, his play on approach. Pan currently sits 41st on tour in strokes gained on approach, as well as 80th in greens in regulation, hitting over 66% of greens. This week, Pan will have a very affordable DFS price, in a field that is lacking depth. Although it's more than his usual price, Pan will have a good chance of paying off his price, especially with two top-30 finishes in his last four starts. Although Pan will likely be outside the winner's circle on Sunday afternoon, he could still put up a good week in Canada.

2 years agoTyrrell Hatton is teeing it up in the RBC Canadian Open this week for the first time in his PGA Tour career. In the event, Hatton will put his made-cut streak on the line, as he hasn't missed a cut in nine-straight starts, dating back to November 2021. Looking back at this week, the field is very top-heavy, lacking depth, which will leave fantasy players looking for value. However, Hatton may be the best value. Priced fairly, Hatton will cost a good amount of DFS salary, but he is priced less than players with less skill. Looking at the run he is on, and his ability, Hatton is worth strong consideration in all contests this week.
