2 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Dylan Carlson (thumb) on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb sprain on Wednesday and selected the contract of outfielder Alec Burleson from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move. The Cardinals also designated outfielder Conner Capel for assignment to clear room for Burleson. Carlson hasn't been playing every day in the second half of the season, so those still clinging onto him in deeper leagues can probably drop him at this point. He's currently hitting .240/.316/.386 with eight homers, 39 RBI, 48 runs and five steals in 383 at-bats on the season. Burleson is the team's No. 5 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, but it remains to be seen how much he'll play over Corey Dickerson, Tyler O'Neill and Lars Nootbaar with Carlson sidelined.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Cardinals Twitter

2 years agoNew York Yankees infielder Matt Carpenter (foot) had X-rays performed recently that showed good healing, but not enough for him to shed the protective walking boot he's been using. He's expected to have more imaging done in 10 days to two weeks, according to skipper Aaron Boone. Carpenter has been out almost a month with a broken foot, and it's unlikely that he'll be able to return to help provide any additional fantasy production in 2022. The 36-year-old veteran left-handed slugger was in the middle of resurrecting his career this year with the Yankees before he got injured. In 154 plate appearances and 47 games before his injury, he was hitting .305/.412/.727 with a 1.138 OPS, 15 home runs, 37 RBI and 28 runs scored.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Bryan Hoch

2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (hand) left the stadium on Wednesday to undergo further testing on his right hand after he was hit by a pitch on Tuesday. The Mets want a more clear picture that initial images didn't provide, but he will miss another contest in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. "We're waiting with bated breath that things come back clean," manager Buck Showalter said. Fantasy managers should consider the 33-year-old veteran to be day-to-day for now, but prepare for the worst just in case. Marte made the All-Star team for the second time in his career this year, and he's slashing a very strong .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 118 games. The Mets and fantasy managers are crossing their fingers that they'll have Marte to close out the season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Anthony DiComo

2 years agoBoston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers is not in the starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. It's just a regular day of rest for Devers, but fantasy managers need to remove him from their daily lineups. With Devers on the bench to start, Christian Arroyo will get the nod at third base and will hit sixth against Rays left-hander Jeffrey Springs. Arroyo has been a really useful super-utility player for the Red Sox this year, and he's hitting .284/.327/.415 with five home runs, 27 RBI, 28 runs scored and five stolen bases in 229 at-bats in 2022. Only one of his five long balls has come against left-handed pitching, though, and Arroyo is still more of a deep DFS sleeper play.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Baseball Press

2 years agoThe Chicago White Sox reinstated starting pitcher Michael Kopech (knee) from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday and optioned right-hander Matt Foster to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Kopech will start against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. The 26-year-old had a minimal stay on the injured list due to a knee strain, and he's ready to go in a tough matchup against Seattle on the road. Interim manager Miguel Cairo also said that Kopech could be limited with his pitch count in his first start back, so he'll be extra risky for fantasy lineups on Wednesday. He's returning to a 3.58 ERA (4.44 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP and a 98:55 K:BB in 110 2/3 innings over his 23 starts for the Pale Hose this year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: White Sox Twitter

2 years agoChicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert (hand) is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners. Robert was hit by a pitch in his left hand on Tuesday night, but thankfully X-rays came back negative. Still, it's yet another ailment for the 25-year-old outfielder after he recently returned from a nine-game absence due to a left wrist injury. It sounds as though Robert is day-to-day for now, but given his injury history, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him land on the injured list. Fantasy managers need to prepare for that possibility. With Robert out yet again on Wednesday, AJ Pollock will get the start in center field and bat seventh against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. Pollock has produced pedestrian numbers as a part-time outfielder in 2022 and will have a tough DFS draw against Castillo.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Baseball Press

2 years agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene isn't in the team's lineup on Wednesday for a matchup with the Los Angeles Angels and left-handed starter Patrick Sandoval. Greene is hitting .254 with a .315 on-base percentage, five home runs, and a stolen base in 311 plate appearances this season. Instead, it'll be Willi Castro starting in center field and hitting leadoff. Castro is batting .245 this season with a .290 on-base percentage, six home runs, and seven stolen bases in 352 plate appearances for Detroit. Fantasy managers in search of streaming options are probably best off looking elsewhere.--Ben Rosener - RotoBallerSource: Detroit Tigers

2 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays reinstated infielder Brandon Lowe (triceps) from the injured list on Wednesday. The 28-year-old is hitting .234 in 251 plate appearances for the Rays this season, with a .319 on-base percentage, eight home runs, and a stolen base. To make room for Lowe on the active roster, Tampa Bay optioned infielder and outfielder Vidal Brujan to Triple-A. In 154 plate appearances in the Majors this season, the 24-year-old is hitting .165 with a .234 on-base percentage, two home runs, and five stolen bases.--Ben Rosener - RotoBallerSource: Rays Communication Twitter Account

2 years agoThe New York Yankees placed third baseman Josh Donaldson on the paternity list on Wednesday. The veteran is batting .220 with a .309 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and a pair of stolen bases in 457 plate appearances in his first season in New York. The Yankees also recalled right-handed pitcher Deivi Garcia from Triple-A to take Donaldson's place on the active roster. Garcia has yet to appear in the Majors this season but made two starts for the Yankees last year. He's pitched to a 7.26 ERA, 59 strikeouts, and 25 walks in 53.1 innings, mainly as a starter, in the minors this season.--Ben Rosener - RotoBallerSource: New York Yankees

2 years agoNew York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu isn't in the team's starting lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Louie Varland on Wednesday. The 33-year-old is enjoying a quality season at the plate, hitting .262 with a .358 on-base percentage and 12 home runs in 523 plate appearances this season. He'll head to the bench with Ronald Guzman hitting cleanup and starting at first base instead. In 322 plate appearances this year with New York's Triple-A affiliate, Guzman batted .260 with a .357 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and a pair of stolen bases. Wednesday will mark his first start in the Majors this season.--Ben Rosener - RotoBallerSource: New York Yankees

2 years agoNew York Yankees designated hitter and outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (foot) isn't in the team's lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Stanton is batting .214 with a .297 on-base percentage and 24 home runs in 371 plate appearances. Aaron Judge is starting at designated hitter instead and batting second with Estevan Florial entering the lineup as the team's center fielder. The 24-year-old is batting seventh against the Twins and right-handed starter Louie Varland. In 22 plate appearances with the Yankees this season, Florial has collected a hit, a walk and a stolen base. Fantasy managers in search of streaming help are probably better off looking elsewhere.--Ben Rosener - RotoBallerSource: New York Yankees

2 years agoPittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the New York Mets on Wednesday. It will be a normal day of rest for the 25-year-old third baseman, but expect to see him return for the nightcap. In his return to the lineup on Tuesday, he went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a walk and a stolen base. With Hayes on the bench for Game 1, Rodolfo Castro will start at the hot corner and hit third against Mets right-hander Chris Bassitt. Castro is in a nice spot in the lineup to produce some counting stats for DFS managers. In just 153 at-bats this year, he's slashing .242/.305/.425 with six home runs, 12 RBI, 13 runs scored and four stolen bases.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Baseball Press

2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher David Robertson was credited with the win on Tuesday in the 3-2 victory over the Miami Marlins. It was his fourth win of the season. Robertson tossed a scoreless ninth frame while allowing one hit, walking two and striking out one. It wasn't the most pristine outing for the 37-year-old veteran, but he'll take the win regardless. He is now 4-2 on the year with a 2.51 ERA (4.09 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP, four saves and 18 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings pitched since joining the Phillies at the Aug. 2 trade deadline. Robertson has been solid in relief for Philadelphia, but he hasn't had a save since Aug. 24.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

2 years agoArizona Diamondbacks closer Ian Kennedy blew another save chance in the 6-5 loss to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night. Kennedy allowed two earned runs on two hits while walking two and striking out none in two-thirds of an inning to blow his sixth save of the season. It was also the 37-year-old right-handed veteran's second straight blown save. He hasn't been good since taking over for demoted closer Mark Melancon, so perhaps the D-backs will make another change with the regular season coming to a close soon. Overall, Kennedy has a 3.60 ERA (4.62 FIP), a 1.36 WHIP, 10 saves and 40 strikeouts in 45 relief innings for Arizona. Don't be surprised if either Joe Mantiply or Melancon get the next crack at a save opportunity.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy went off in the 6-3 win over the division-rival San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, three RBI and three runs scored to do most of the damage for the Blue. It was a welcomed performance from the 32-year-old, who hadn't homered in 13 previous contests. It's been a rough year for Muncy, as he's slashing .192/.321/.381, but he does have 18 home runs, 54 RBI, 58 runs scored and two stolen bases in 386 at-bats for the Dodgers. He's off to a nice start in September, though, going 6-for-20 (.300) with two homers, three RBI and four runs scored in five games. Both fantasy managers and the Dodgers are hoping he'll continue to heat up to close out September.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
