Daily Fantasy Golf FanDuel Picks (PGA DFS) - Sanderson Farms Championship

Hello RotoBaller PGA crew! It's great to be back with you guys and I appreciate you joining us here at RotoBaller for the second event of the PGA Swing Season. Let's head down to Jackson for the Sanderson Farms Championship!

In this article, we'll discuss some of the standout PGA DFS plays available on FanDuel for the Sanderson Farms Championship. While it's impossible to hit on every player, we'll touch on some different plays across all price ranges, breaking the groups down into "High", "Mid", and "Low" price options that are worth considering.

Sanderson Farms Championship - PGA DFS Overview

Country Club of Jackson

7,461 Yards - Par 72 - Greens: Poa Annua - Designers: John Fought

The PGA Tour - rightly - catches a lot of heat for the golf courses that it elects to play. While I'm sure the Country Club of Jackson is a fine place with wonderful people, it could well serve as Exhibit A for the Tour's detractors, as it is unexceptional in almost every way. A standard Par 72 with four Par-5s, players will need to take advantage of those scoring opportunities. There's very little penalty for being wayward off the tee which will give a bump to the longer hitters. With six Par-4s between 400-450 yards, I'll target golfers that historically succeed on these types of holes. A combined 54% of approach shots fall inside the 100-175 yard bucket on this layout. If Sergio Garcia's win here last year wasn't enough evidence, "bad" putters can certainly succeed on these straightforward Bermuda greens.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays 

Will Zalatoris ($11,800)

The 2020-21 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year went through something of a mini-slump at the end of the summer, but it is fair to ask how long he was going to continue on a blistering pace that saw him log top-10 finishes in three consecutive major championships. Thankfully, Willie Z looked more like himself in a start at the Fortinet a couple of weeks ago, gaining 4.4 strokes on Approach en route to a T11 result. It was his best statistical outing with the irons since the PGA Championship in May and I regard it as an encouraging sign as he heads to a Country Club of Jackson layout that is a perfect fit on paper. A win feels almost inevitable and the Sanderson presents him with a tremendous opportunity to grab his first victory on the PGA Tour.

Corey Conners ($11,500)

The Canadian ball-striking extraordinaire checks a lot of boxes for us this week. Conners finished the 2020-21 season ranked inside the PGA Tour’s top-10 in SG: Off The Tee, SG: Approach, and Ball Striking. Unfortunately, his glaring weakness on the greens led him to finish the season in a tie for 112th in SG: Putting and likely kept him out of the winner’s circle last season. However, this Sanderson event has been something of a haven for “bad” putters historically, as Sergio Garcia won last year’s edition literally putting with his eyes closed. That trend has even held true for Conners himself, as he scored a runner-up finish to Cameron Champ (another bad putter) here in the 2019 version and managed a solid T17 here last year.

Mito Pereira ($10,900)

We've already talked about the reigning PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, Will Zalatoris, so it feels appropriate to highlight the player that's perhaps the early frontrunner for the 2021-22 ROY award, Mito Pereira. The Chilean earned a "Battlefield Promotion" at the tail end of last season thanks to his performance on the Korn Ferry Tour. What has he done since? Oh, just posted top-six finishes in three of his last four starts on the PGA Tour. One of those results was a solo third at the Fortinet Championship two weeks ago, an event where Pereira looked razor-sharp in all facets of the game and gained 11.2 strokes T2G on the week. He is the game's "shiny new toy", so he will be a popular play on this slate, but it is tough to argue with his talent and the quality of his recent play.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Matthew Wolff ($10,000)

If you're focusing on cash games or single-entry tournaments this week, you might just want to skip over Matthew Wolff here. However, if you're trying to take down a large-field GPP, Wolff is a very intriguing boom-or-bust type of play. If you follow the game very closely, then you are probably familiar with Wolff's story. The now-22-year-old found success very quickly on the PGA Tour with a win at the 3M Open shortly after turning pro and a runner-up finish at the U.S. Open to close out 2020. It was apparently too much too fast for Wolff, as he elected to take a four-month hiatus from the game earlier this year, but reminded us of his talent with a birdie barrage in the U.S. Open that resulted in a T15 at Torrey Pines. The bottom line...this kid is extremely volatile - and we have no idea what shape his game is currently in - but uber-talented. His DFS floor is shooting 78-80 to miss the cut, though he also has very real tournament-winning upside.

Aaron Wise ($9,900)

One of my favorite GPP plays on the board, Aaron Wise is another one of these T2G superstars that morphs into a weekend hacker when he reaches the green. Wise finished the '20-21 season ranked an abysmal 174th on the PGA Tour in SG: Putting. However, he is extremely talented from T2G and leads this field in Birdies or Better Gained over the last 24 rounds. Toss in the fact that bad putters have had some success on this golf course - and the fact that Wise himself has made three consecutive Sanderson cuts with a pair of top-25s - and he's squarely in play for me in DFS tournaments this week.

Scott Stallings ($9,500)

I’m an admitted Stallings “homer”, but I think pulling the trigger on my fellow East Tennessean is completely justified this week. He heads to the Sanderson fresh off an impressive T6 showing at the Fortinet. His track record at CC of J is a solid one, Stallings notched a T6 in his most recent visit and has made the cut in each of his last four Sanderson starts. Perhaps his success at this golf course can be attributed to his mastery of Par 4s measuring 400-450 yards - of which there are six of on this layout. His volatility can be frustrating, but he brings a nice measure of upside to the table at this $9.5k price point.

Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players

Chez Reavie ($9,400)

Chez Reavie is neither a bomber nor an elite putter, so he's not an obvious fit for this week's layout. That said, Reavie has the feel of a player with a game that's trending in the right direction. The veteran fired an opening-round 65 just two weeks ago at the Fortinet Championship before ultimately settling for a T28. That event marked the third time in four starts that Reavie gained strokes both OTT and on Approach. He heads to Jackson ranked second in the field in Good Drives Gained, Overall Proximity, and SG: Ball Striking over the last 24 rounds. His lack of distance off the tee is a legit concern on this Par-72 layout, but he's surprisingly held his own on Par-5s as of late and ranks a solid 38th in the field in SG: Par-5s.

Greyson Sigg ($8,600)

I love my Korn Ferry Tour grads and I'll have a feeling that I'll be auto-playing Greyson Sigg until his DFS price increases. The UGA alum hits the ball robot straight, a trait that translates to basically any type of layout. After a big season on the KFT, he knocked out a rock-solid T30 in the Fortinet Championship two weeks ago. I expect this guy to have a very long and successful career on the PGA Tour and I'm more than happy to buy his stock at this discounted price point.

Adam Schenk ($8,400)

Rarely do guys actually feel underpriced in Swing Season events, but Adam Schenk stands out as one of the best pure value plays on the slate. He made a really nice run down the stretch last season, a run that was highlighted by a top-five at the John Deere Classic. Schenk has also been great in this Sanderson event, having made the cut in all four of his prior trips to Jackson, with a T7 coming in the 2019 edition. His length off the tee (18th in the field in Driving Distance) has enabled him to perform well on Par-5s (seventh in SG: Par-5s) and that should be an integral part of success on this week's fairly lengthy Par-72 layout.
