FanDuel PGA DFS Lineup Picks - 2022 PGA Championship Daily Fantasy Golf Advice

Hello RotoBaller PGA crew! It's great to be back with you guys and I appreciate you joining us here at RotoBaller for your PGA DFS research. I hope you are as excited as I am for the year's second major championship at the legendary Southern Hills Country Club! Let's dive into the PGA Championship!

In this article, we'll discuss some of the standout PGA DFS plays available on FanDuel for the 2022 PGA Championship While it's impossible to hit on every player, we'll touch on some different plays across all price ranges, breaking the groups down into "High", "Mid", and "Low" price options that are worth considering.

Like always, the purpose of this piece is to help you put together your optimal daily fantasy golf lineups for FanDuel, whether that be from a GPP perspective or a cash-game mentality. Be sure to also read all of our other top-notch weekly PGA DFS and betting articles to help you win big!

2022 PGA Championship - PGA DFS Overview

The Course: Southern Hills Country Club

Par 70 - 7,556 Yards, Greens: Bent, Designed By: Perry Maxwell (1936), Renovation: Gil Hanse (2019)

Figuring out the golf course is a huge piece of the puzzle when it comes to major championships and rotating venues, and in the case of Southern Hills, we'll see a very different golf course than the one we saw for Tiger Woods 2007 PGA Championship win.

Course doctor, Gil Hanse, performed an extensive renovation on Southern Hills in 2019, with the result being a layout that harkens back to architect Perry Maxwell's original vision. This includes the extensive removal of trees lining the fairways and rough surrounding greens, as well as the reworking of bunkers. We'll also see several creeks and tributaries that wind throughout the property come into play on multiple holes.

Length will always be an advantage on any course, and that will again be the case this week, but we shouldn't underestimate precision and accuracy, as well as creativity around the greens. I see some resemblance between this new-look version of Southern Hills and Augusta National, with undulations and short-grass runoffs being the most prominent similarities, so I think there will be some crossover success for players that have performed well in the Masters.

For an in-depth breakdown of this week's course, check out RotoBaller's PGA Premium Course Breakdown by Josh Bennett!

Fantasy Golf Lineup Picks for FanDuel (PGA DFS)

We have tons of great weekly PGA articles, DFS analysis, tools and DFS advice. Be sure to read our other fantastic articles regarding this week's event including DFS lineup picks for DraftKings/FanDuel, betting advice and DFS prop picks.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Scottie Scheffler ($12,000)

Let's not overthink this one. Scottie Scheffler is the best player in the world at the moment and heads to a Southern Hills layout that he's publicly proclaimed to be his favorite course in the world. Scheffler won the 2015 Big 12 Championship at Southern Hills and - thanks to his Texas roots - has a lifetime of experience dealing with whatever windy conditions might come this weekend. The former Longhorn reportedly fired a 64 in a recent practice round.

He's posted wins in four of nine starts this year - including a victory at the Masters last month - and there's no real reason to believe he'll slow down here. His prodigious length off the tee (25th on PGA Tour in Driving Distance) means no ballpark is ever too big, while his rock-solid iron play (25th SG: APP L24) and dependable short game (seventh SG: Short Game L24) power a game that has no real weaknesses.

Cameron Smith ($11,400)

With all the superstars atop the salary scale this week, I feel as though Cameron Smith might be going a bit overlooked. The Aussie has played a light schedule this year, teeing it up just six times in 2022, and perhaps that has him out of the DFS consciousness to an extent.

We shouldn't let Smith's lack of activity scare us off this week on a Southern Hills layout that might just be tailor-made for him. We expect players to have plenty of room to operate off the tee this week, which will be a big boost for the often-errant Smith. We also expect an emphasis to be placed on wedge play and ability around the greens, areas where the 2022 Players champion might currently be the best in the world. He grades out fifth in SG: Short Game over long-term measurements and second in Proximity from 100-125 yards.

Jordan Spieth ($11,000)

We aren't going to sneak up on anyone with Jordan Spieth on this slate, as the wonder boy's results in his last two starts - a win at the Heritage and a runner-up at the Byron Nelson - have the golf world's attention squarely focused on the man that is trying to complete the career grand slam at this week's PGA Championship. While Spieth's popularity continues to grow as the week progresses, it is with reason, as his ball-striking has clicked in a big way of late. Spieth has gained a combined 25(!) strokes T2G over his last two starts, which is the best mark of his illustrious career in two back-to-back outings! Over his last 12 measured rounds, he ranks first in this elite field in both SG: T2G and Ball Striking.

In addition to the nuclear ball-striking, the Texan is both familiar with, and a great fit for Southern Hills. His short-game wizardry is the stuff of legend, as his ability to handle windy conditions. There are lots of occasions that I'm eager to pivot away from the "trendy" play of the week, but I'll begrudgingly choke down the Spieth chalk in this spot.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Shane Lowry ($10,700)

Shane Lowry isn't often discussed in the same breath as the game's elites - maybe that has something to do with the fact that he looks more like the guy that shows up to your house to fix a clogged sink than a world-class athlete - but the 2019 Open Championship winner has put together a truly impressive year to this point. Lowry put together his best career finish in the Masters - a gritty T3 - and followed that up with another T3 at Hilton Head in an event that he really should have won.

The Irishman possesses world-class touch around the greens and grew up playing in windy conditions...traits that will come in handy this week at Southern Hills. His uptick in production this year can be traced directly to his improvement with the irons. Lowry grades out fourth in this week's field in SG: Approach over his last 12 rounds. He's gained strokes with the blades in every one of his 2022 starts and has gained an average of 4.4 strokes on Approach over his last five tournaments. Don't let his portly appearance fool you, this dude has a major-championship caliber skill set.

Will Zalatoris ($10,700)

Will a missed cut in last week's AT&T Byron Nelson turn the masses away from Willie Z on this slate? Maybe to a small extent...but I'm not willing to let a two-day total of four-under-par scare me away from a player that's been a consistent major championship performer over the course of his young career. Zalatoris has a ridiculous success rate in golf's biggest events and has posted an eye-popping five top-10 finishes in seven career major championship starts.

Look, we all know about the putting issues and that's a pill we must be willing to swallow when rostering him. However, elite ball-striking covers up for a lot of shortcomings and the Wake Forest alum is world-class in that area. He's gained strokes T2G in every 2022 start and grades out first in this elite field in SG: Approach & second in SG: Ball Striking over the last 24 rounds.

Max Homa ($9,800)

Advertising

Homa is too good of a player to not eventually break through in a major, right? If there's ever a time for the Cali native to exorcise the major championship demons, it might be now, as he's playing the best - and most consistent - golf of his career. Homa heads to Tulsa fresh off of a victory at the Wells Fargo two weeks ago. The win was his third in just under 18 months. It was a performance that came on the heels of an extended run of excellence. Homa has finished inside the top-20 in six of eight 2022 starts and gained an average of 6.5 strokes T2G over his last five. He grades out sixth in this field in SG: Ball Striking and 13th in SG: Total over his last 24 rounds. This Southern Hills layout makes sense as a fit for his strong overall skill set.

Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players

Billy Horschel ($9,100)

I'm not in the habit of playing Billy Horschel frequently, especially in majors, so I'm a little surprised that I find myself interested in Billy Ho here. The UF alum has struggled in major championships, to say the least, recording just one top-10 over his entire career. It's undoubtedly a scary trend, but one he might be able to buck this week on a Southern Hills layout that should suit his game better than most major-championship venues. Horschel is a notoriously streaky player and he's in the midst of a hot stretch. He's gained strokes T2G in six of his last seven starts and hasn't missed a cut since the U.S. Open last June. While it's not a stat I'm often going to give much weight to, I am considering scrambling ability this week, and Billy grades out 11th in this field in Scrambling Gained.

Alex Noren ($8,500)

Since moving to the PGA Tour full time, Alex Noren's game has gone through some ebbs and flows. The 10-time Euro Tour winner has looked more like himself as of late, gaining strokes in each of his last eight starts and making the cut in 14 straight. The Swede is the definition of a grinder and has been under-the-radar solid in major championship environments. Noren has recorded five top-25 finishes in 12 major starts since 2018.

Cameron Young ($8,200)

There's no such thing as a "free square" in a major championship, but I can't ignore Cameron Young at this price. Young is 0-for-3 in majors to this point in his career, with an ugly outing at the Masters in his most recent attempt. But...finishes of T3-T2 in his two post-Masters starts have me willing to give him another shot at this price point. After winning twice on the KFT in 2021, he's been a statistical marvel in his first season on the PGA Tour. Young grades out first in this field in Proximity and third in SG: T2G over his last 24 rounds. He's crazy long (ninth Driving Distance L24) and good enough around the greens (30th SG: Around L24) to make a major splash this week.
