Tim Anderson Cleared To Ramp Up Baseball Activities
2 years agoChicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson (hand) followed up with a hand specialist and has been cleared to ramp up his baseball activities immediately. If he can avoid any setbacks after having left hand surgery on Aug. 6, Anderson could potentially return to the White Sox's starting lineup at some point next week. There's very little time for the 29-year-old to contribute the rest of the way for fantasy managers, but he should remain stashed everywhere. The two-time All-Star was hitting .301/.339/.395 with six home runs, 25 RBI, 50 runs scored and 13 stolen bases in 351 plate appearances over 79 games before his injury. The White Sox signed veteran Elvis Andrus to be their everyday shortstop with Anderson on the shelf.Source: MLB.com - Scott Merkin
Mets Plan To Activate Max Scherzer When He's Eligible
2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer (oblique) will either throw a simulated game at Citi Field on Wednesday or make a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse. In either scenario, the Mets plan to activate him from the injured list as soon as he's eligible on Sept. 19. "That's the hope," said skipper Buck Showalter. Scherzer was placed on the injured list last week with left oblique soreness, but it looks like he's doing well and is ready to finish the 2022 regular season in New York's rotation. The 38-year-old future Hall of Famer continues to be a must-start for fantasy managers every time he toes the rubber. He's gone 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA (2.54 FIP), a 0.92 WHIP, 153 strikeouts and only 23 walks in 127 2/3 innings over 20 starts in his first year in the Big Apple.Source: MLB.com - Anthony DiComo
Alek Manoah Cleared To Start Game 2 Tuesday
2 years agoToronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (illness) has recovered from his stomach bug and won't have any restrictions when he starts Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. Manoah was originally scheduled to start Game 1, but he was scratched due to a stomach bug. The 24-year-old right-hander will still be a little more risky in this one, but he should be started in the majority of fantasy formats. The first-time All-Star has gone 14-7 for the Blue Jays this year with a 2.42 ERA (3.30 FIP), a 0.99 WHIP, 158 strikeouts and 41 walks in 171 innings over 27 starts. He hasn't allowed more than one earned run in any of his last four starts against the Orioles, Pirates, Angels and Yankees.Source: TSN Sports - Scott Mitchell
Jake Fraley Leaves Game 1 Early Tuesday
2 years agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (head) left Game 1 of a doubleheader early on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates when he was hit in the head by a fastball from Manny Banuelos. Fraley was down on the ground for a bit before he was able to get up and walk off the field under his owner power. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter will likely be put through the league's concussion protocol and is unlikely to be in the starting lineup for Game 2. Fraley went 0-for-2 with a walk before leaving the game and was replaced by Stuart Fairchild. Coming into Tuesday's doubleheader, Fraley was hitting .248/.341/.484 with an .825 OPS, 10 home runs, 23 RBI, 30 runs scored and three stolen bases in 52 games for Cincy.Source: DK Pgh Sports - Chris Halicke
Luis Robert Returns On Tuesday
2 years agoChicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert (hand) is back in center field and is batting seventh on Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies and right-hander Chad Kuhl. Robert has been sidelined for all but two games in the month of September due to hand and wrist injuries. He hasn't played in a full game since Sept. 5 and hasn't recorded a hit since Aug. 24, going 0-for-11 with three strikeouts in five games since then. The 25-year-old will return to the seventh spot in the lineup as well, which makes him less attractive from a fantasy standpoint. When he's been healthy, Robert has swung the bat well, slashing .295/.331/.444 with 12 home runs, 56 RBI, 54 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 363 at-bats.Source: Baseball Press
Avisail Garcia Heads To Injured List
2 years agoThe Miami Marlins placed outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and called up infield prospect Jordan Groshans from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. With time running out in the regular season, there's a good chance we won't see Garcia again in 2022. He's hit a disappointing .230/.267/.316 with seven home runs, 31 RBI, 29 runs scored and four stolen bases in 359 plate appearances over 93 games in his first year in Miami after clubbing a career-high 29 home runs and driving in 86 in 2021 with the Milwaukee Brewers. With the 31-year-old veteran on the shelf, Jerar Encarnacion and Bryan De La Cruz will battle for more playing time in the outfield.Source: Miami Herald - Barry Jackson
Jasson Dominguez Promoted To Double-A
2 years agoThe New York Yankees promoted outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez from High-A Hudson Valley to Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. The Yankees also promoted first baseman Tyler Hardman from Hudson Valley to Somerset while placing Everson Pereira on the seven-day injured list at Somerset. Dominguez is the Yankees No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he will continue his minor league season at Double-A with Single-A seasons wrapping up. The 19-year-old switch-hitter batted .280/.382/.465 with an .847 OPS, 15 home runs, 58 RBI, 87 runs scored and a career-high 36 stolen bases in 115 games for Hudson Valley and Single-A Tampa this year. Dominguez has plus-plus speed and elite raw power for his age. We may not see him debut until 2024, but he's worth stashing in dynasty/keeper leagues right now because of his high upside down the road.Source: Somerset Patriots Twitter
Trevor Story Not Starting Against Yankees
2 years agoBoston Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story (heel) is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the New York Yankees. Story will start on the bench for the start of a two-game series against the division rivals after leaving Sunday's game early with left heel pain. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day and remove him from your starting lineups. The 29-year-old slugger has dealt with various injuries in 2022 in his first year in Beantown and is hitting just .238/.303/.434, but he does have 16 home runs, 66 RBI, 53 runs scored and 13 stolen bases in 357 at-bats. Christian Arroyo is manning the keystone and hitting sixth on Tuesday against Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole. Arroyo doesn't rack up the counting stats as a super-utility guy, but he's been consistent with the bat this year and is hitting .280 (7-for-25) with a homer, eight RBI and two runs in seven games over the last two weeks.Source: Baseball Press
Eduardo Rodriguez Allows Five Runs On Monday
2 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez allowed five earned runs in his start against the Houston Astros on Monday. It wasn't an ideal outing for the veteran, who also gave up 10 hits and a walk while striking out a pair of batters. He finished the day with an 18% CSW rate and generated seven swinging strikes on 88 pitches against the Astros. In his first year with the Tigers, the 29-year-old has pitched to a 4.50 ERA, a 4.50 FIP, 52 strikeouts, and 26 walks in 66 innings.Source: Statcast
Trevor Rogers Has Strong Start Against Rangers
2 years agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Rogers turned in a solid outing on Monday against the Texas Rangers. The left-hander threw 6.1 innings and limited the Rangers to four hits, two runs, and a pair of walks. He also struck out nine batters in the outing while generating 18 swinging strikes on 89 pitches. What's more, Rogers finished the day with a strong 37% CSW rate. The 24-year-old has pitched to a 5.35 ERA this season, with a 4.24 FIP, 105 strikeouts, and 44 walks in 106 innings for the Marlins.Source: Statcast
Tyler Naquin Isn't Starting On Tuesday For The Mets
2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Tyler Naquin isn't in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday for a matchup with the Chicago Cubs and right-hander Adrian Sampson. The 31-year-old Naquin is batting .243 with a .302 on-base percentage, 11 home runs, and four stolen bases in 292 plate appearances this season. Instead, Jeff McNeil will move to right field with Luis Guillorme entering the lineup at second base. McNeil is batting third against Sampson and the Cubs while Guillorme is hitting eighth.Source: New York Mets
Jonathan Schoop Not Starting On Tuesday
2 years agoDetroit Tigers infielder Jonathan Schoop isn't in the team's lineup on Tuesday for a matchup with the Houston Astros and right-hander Hunter Brown. The 30-year-old is batting .200 this season with a .234 on-base percentage, nine home runs, and five stolen bases in 458 plate appearances for the Tigers. It'll be Harold Castro starting at second base instead on Tuesday. Castro, who is hitting second against Houston, is batting .273 with a .304 on-base percentage, and six home runs in 388 plate appearances. He's worth a look for fantasy managers in search of streaming options in deeper leagues.Source: Detroit Tigers
Andres Gimenez Not In Tuesday's Lineup
2 years agoCleveland Guardians infielder Andres Gimenez isn't in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday for a matchup with the Los Angeles Angels and left-handed starter Jose Suarez. Gimenez is batting .297 with a .368 on-base percentage, 16 home runs, and 18 stolen bases in 477 plate appearances for Cleveland this year. He'll head to the bench on Tuesday with Tyler Freeman starting at second base and batting seventh against Suarez and the Angels. Freeman has logged 60 plate appearances for Cleveland this season, batting .245 with a .317 on-base percentage and a stolen base. Fantasy managers in search of streaming options are probably better off looking elsewhere.Source: Cleveland Guardians
Alek Manoah Scratched From Game 1 Start
2 years agoToronto Blue Jays interim manager John Schneider said that starting pitcher Alek Manoah (illness) was scratched from his start in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays because he's fighting a stomach bug. Manoah is currently hydrating, and the team hopes he can recover enough to start in Game 2. Reliever Julian Merryweather is now listed as the starter for Game 1, but he'll likely only go an inning or two before making way for a bulk arm in the first game. Manoah, a first-time All-Star this year, has gone 14-7 with a 2.42 ERA (3.30 FIP), a 0.99 WHIP and a 158:41 K:BB over 171 innings and 27 starts. As long as he makes his the start in Game 2 he should be started in most fantasy formats, but he'll carry a little more risk.Source: Sportsnet.ca - Shi Davidi
Brandon Lowe Dealing With Back Issue
2 years agoUpdating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that second baseman Brandon Lowe's back has been bothering him, which is why he's not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. The team will see if he's available to come off the bench late in Game 1 and/or start in Game 2. The sore back could help explain why the 28-year-old left-handed hitter has gone hitless in his last 14 at-bats over five games. With Lowe out, Taylor Walls is starting at the keystone and is hitting eighth against Blue Jays right-hander Julian Merryweather in Game 1. DFS gamers should look for better low-cost options over Walls.Source: Tampa Bay Times - Marc Topkin
