2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) sustained a non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger and is considered day-to-day. The 33-year-old sat out both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was removed from Tuesday's contest against the Pirates after being hit by a pitch on the right hand. The veteran appears to have avoided a significant injury, but it's unclear if the finger issue will require a trip to the injured list. Marte's next chance to return will be Friday against the Miami Marlins. Stay tuned.Source: Anthony DiComo of MLB.com
2 years agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hamstring) was diagnosed with left hamstring discomfort after exiting Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. He sustained the hamstring injury trying to beat out a double-play ground ball during the second inning. He went 0-for-1 with an RBI before exiting. Gurriel is considered day-to-day, with his next chance to return to the lineup will be Friday against the Texas Rangers. Whit Merrifield and Bradley Zimmer would see an uptick in playing time if Gurriel is forced to miss any games.Source: Toronto Blue Jays
2 years agoColorado Rockies outfielder Yonathan Daza had another multi-hit game after he went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 8-4 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers. He doubled and scored twice during the contest and has back-to-back two-hit games since coming off the injured list. Daza has come out of nowhere to be a big batting average contributor, hitting .304, but hasn't shown any power or speed (two home runs, no stolen bases) across his 92 games this season or throughout his career. Fantasy managers should know what they're sacrificing if they pick up the 28-year-old from the waiver wire.Source: MLB.com
2 years agoCincinnati Reds rookie right-hander Hunter Greene (shoulder) will make another minor league rehab start on Sunday at Triple-A Louisville. After that, barring any setbacks, Greene is expected to rejoin the Reds' starting rotation to close out the 2022 season. The 23-year-old rookie has allowed one run on two hits while walking one and striking out 10 in his two outings for Louisville so far, so he certainly looks about ready to return to the big leagues. Greene won't be able to rack up that many strikeouts the rest of the way for fantasy managers, but he'll be a highly coveted strikeout arm in fantasy drafts going into his second big league season. In his first 20 MLB starts, he has a 5.26 ERA (4.95 FIP), a 1.29 WHIP, 127 K's and 41 walks in 102 2/3 innings pitched.Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Bobby Nightengale
2 years agoTexas Rangers third base prospect Josh Jung will be recalled from the minors and will make his major league debut for the team on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to sources. A torn left labrum in his shoulder in spring training kept Jung from beginning the year in the major leagues, but he'll wind up debuting this year anyway, albeit a lot later than most expected. The team's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, hit a combined .267/.323/.542 with an .865 OPS, nine home runs, 29 RBI and 18 runs scored in 30 games for the Rookie-level club and Triple-A Round Rock this year. Although the 24-year-old won't have much time to make a fantasy impact for the rest of 2022, he's deserving of a pickup in almost all leagues if you need a power boost. Jung is likely to play regularly to close things out.Source: The Athletic - Levi Weaver
2 years agoLos Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (wrist) was initially believed to be out for the year after he had right wrist surgery, but he's been fully participating in defensive drills, including throwing and hitting in the cages. There's now a chance that Rendon could return before the end of the regular season. It would allow him to serve his five-game suspension from his role in a fight with the Seattle Mariners in June. Head trainer Mike Frostad said Rendon is passing all of the tests so far. The 32-year-old has been a disappointment since signing a seven-year, $245 million deal with the Angels, and he's missed most of the season for the second time in three years. He's hit .228 with five home runs and a .707 OPS in 45 games this year, but he won't have enough time to help fantasy managers down the stretch if he does return.Source: Orange County Register - Jeff Fletcher
2 years agoMilwaukee Brewers left-hander Eric Lauer (elbow) left his start early on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies with left elbow tightness, according to the team. It was a rough day for Lauer, as he coughed up seven runs on six hits while striking out four in 2 2/3 innings before departing with his injury. The 27-year-old was probably hindered by his arm in the short amount of time he was in the game, but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to make his next start or even return at all in the final month of the regular season as the Brewers attempt to land a wild-card spot. Heading into his start on Wednesday, Lauer was 10-6 with a 3.54 ERA (4.63 FIP), a 1.22 WHIP, 134 strikeouts and 51 walks in 142 1/3 frames over his 25 starts.Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Todd Rosiak
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Joey Gallo (elbow) left the game early on Wednesday against the division-rival San Francisco Giants with a right elbow contusion after he was hit by a pitch in the second inning of play. For now, fantasy managers should consider Gallo to be day-to-day, but the 28-year-old could be ready to go for the series opener on Friday against the San Diego Padres after an off day on Thursday. Gallo came into Wednesday's game with a .203/.311/.469 slash line with four homers and 13 RBI in 24 games for the Dodgers after being dealt from the New York Yankees at the trade deadline. Overall, he's hitting an embarrassing .168 with 16 home runs, 37 RBI, 42 runs scored and two stolen bases in 106 games.Source: Dodgers Twitter
2 years agoHouston Astros right-hander Justin Verlander (calf) is progressing nicely, perhaps even quicker than expected. He hasn't thrown off a pitching rubber yet, but he threw off the slope of the mound on Wednesday. Verlander is hoping to throw a light bullpen session in the next couple of days, but there's still no concrete timetable for his return to the starting rotation. The Astros will want the 39-year-old two-time Cy Young winner fully healthy for the playoffs, so they'll make sure not to rush him back to close out September. It sounds like he'll be ready to go sooner than later, but he's still running out of time to help fantasy managers. Verlander continues to be excellent for fantasy managers, posting a league-best ERA (1.84) and WHIP (0.85) while striking out 154 and walking 26 in 152 innings over 24 starts in 2022.Source: Houston Chronicle - Chandler Rome
2 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder Teoscar Hernandez on the paternity list on Wednesday. In corresponding moves, the team recalled right-hander Zach Pop and catcher Gabriel Moreno from Triple-A Buffalo and optioned right-hander Mitch White to Buffalo in a corresponding move. Fantasy managers will now be without Hernandez for the next one to three games, so plan accordingly. Raimel Tapia is getting the start in right field and is hitting sixth on Wednesday against Baltimore Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells. Tapia could start in every game that Hernandez is out, but he's gone just 2-for-22 (.091) with no homers, one RBI, two runs scored and six strikeouts in seven games over the last two weeks.Source: Blue Jays Twitter
2 years agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Senzel (ankle) remains out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs. Senzel will miss his second straight game after he was scratched from the lineup on Tuesday with a right ankle sprain. The 27-year-old should be considered day-to-day for now by fantasy managers. TJ Friedl will start in center field and bat leadoff on Wednesday against Cubs right-hander Javier Assad. The left-handed-hitting Friedl has gone 39-for-142 (.275) on the year with five homers, 19 RBI, 24 runs scored and six steals in 46 games. For his two-year big-league career, he's hit five of his six home runs against right-handers, and he'll be a low-cost DFS sleeper on Wednesday.Source: Baseball Press
2 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Dylan Carlson (thumb) on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb sprain on Wednesday and selected the contract of outfielder Alec Burleson from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move. The Cardinals also designated outfielder Conner Capel for assignment to clear room for Burleson. Carlson hasn't been playing every day in the second half of the season, so those still clinging onto him in deeper leagues can probably drop him at this point. He's currently hitting .240/.316/.386 with eight homers, 39 RBI, 48 runs and five steals in 383 at-bats on the season. Burleson is the team's No. 5 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, but it remains to be seen how much he'll play over Corey Dickerson, Tyler O'Neill and Lars Nootbaar with Carlson sidelined.Source: Cardinals Twitter
2 years agoNew York Yankees infielder Matt Carpenter (foot) had X-rays performed recently that showed good healing, but not enough for him to shed the protective walking boot he's been using. He's expected to have more imaging done in 10 days to two weeks, according to skipper Aaron Boone. Carpenter has been out almost a month with a broken foot, and it's unlikely that he'll be able to return to help provide any additional fantasy production in 2022. The 36-year-old veteran left-handed slugger was in the middle of resurrecting his career this year with the Yankees before he got injured. In 154 plate appearances and 47 games before his injury, he was hitting .305/.412/.727 with a 1.138 OPS, 15 home runs, 37 RBI and 28 runs scored.Source: MLB.com - Bryan Hoch
2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (hand) left the stadium on Wednesday to undergo further testing on his right hand after he was hit by a pitch on Tuesday. The Mets want a more clear picture that initial images didn't provide, but he will miss another contest in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. "We're waiting with bated breath that things come back clean," manager Buck Showalter said. Fantasy managers should consider the 33-year-old veteran to be day-to-day for now, but prepare for the worst just in case. Marte made the All-Star team for the second time in his career this year, and he's slashing a very strong .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 118 games. The Mets and fantasy managers are crossing their fingers that they'll have Marte to close out the season.Source: MLB.com - Anthony DiComo
2 years agoBoston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers is not in the starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. It's just a regular day of rest for Devers, but fantasy managers need to remove him from their daily lineups. With Devers on the bench to start, Christian Arroyo will get the nod at third base and will hit sixth against Rays left-hander Jeffrey Springs. Arroyo has been a really useful super-utility player for the Red Sox this year, and he's hitting .284/.327/.415 with five home runs, 27 RBI, 28 runs scored and five stolen bases in 229 at-bats in 2022. Only one of his five long balls has come against left-handed pitching, though, and Arroyo is still more of a deep DFS sleeper play.Source: Baseball Press
