2 years agoThe Chicago White Sox reinstated starting pitcher Michael Kopech (knee) from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday and optioned right-hander Matt Foster to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Kopech will start against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. The 26-year-old had a minimal stay on the injured list due to a knee strain, and he's ready to go in a tough matchup against Seattle on the road. Interim manager Miguel Cairo also said that Kopech could be limited with his pitch count in his first start back, so he'll be extra risky for fantasy lineups on Wednesday. He's returning to a 3.58 ERA (4.44 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP and a 98:55 K:BB in 110 2/3 innings over his 23 starts for the Pale Hose this year.Source: White Sox Twitter
2 years agoChicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert (hand) is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners. Robert was hit by a pitch in his left hand on Tuesday night, but thankfully X-rays came back negative. Still, it's yet another ailment for the 25-year-old outfielder after he recently returned from a nine-game absence due to a left wrist injury. It sounds as though Robert is day-to-day for now, but given his injury history, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him land on the injured list. Fantasy managers need to prepare for that possibility. With Robert out yet again on Wednesday, AJ Pollock will get the start in center field and bat seventh against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. Pollock has produced pedestrian numbers as a part-time outfielder in 2022 and will have a tough DFS draw against Castillo.Source: Baseball Press
2 years agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene isn't in the team's lineup on Wednesday for a matchup with the Los Angeles Angels and left-handed starter Patrick Sandoval. Greene is hitting .254 with a .315 on-base percentage, five home runs, and a stolen base in 311 plate appearances this season. Instead, it'll be Willi Castro starting in center field and hitting leadoff. Castro is batting .245 this season with a .290 on-base percentage, six home runs, and seven stolen bases in 352 plate appearances for Detroit. Fantasy managers in search of streaming options are probably best off looking elsewhere.Source: Detroit Tigers
2 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays reinstated infielder Brandon Lowe (triceps) from the injured list on Wednesday. The 28-year-old is hitting .234 in 251 plate appearances for the Rays this season, with a .319 on-base percentage, eight home runs, and a stolen base. To make room for Lowe on the active roster, Tampa Bay optioned infielder and outfielder Vidal Brujan to Triple-A. In 154 plate appearances in the Majors this season, the 24-year-old is hitting .165 with a .234 on-base percentage, two home runs, and five stolen bases.Source: Rays Communication Twitter Account
2 years agoThe New York Yankees placed third baseman Josh Donaldson on the paternity list on Wednesday. The veteran is batting .220 with a .309 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and a pair of stolen bases in 457 plate appearances in his first season in New York. The Yankees also recalled right-handed pitcher Deivi Garcia from Triple-A to take Donaldson's place on the active roster. Garcia has yet to appear in the Majors this season but made two starts for the Yankees last year. He's pitched to a 7.26 ERA, 59 strikeouts, and 25 walks in 53.1 innings, mainly as a starter, in the minors this season.Source: New York Yankees
2 years agoNew York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu isn't in the team's starting lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Louie Varland on Wednesday. The 33-year-old is enjoying a quality season at the plate, hitting .262 with a .358 on-base percentage and 12 home runs in 523 plate appearances this season. He'll head to the bench with Ronald Guzman hitting cleanup and starting at first base instead. In 322 plate appearances this year with New York's Triple-A affiliate, Guzman batted .260 with a .357 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and a pair of stolen bases. Wednesday will mark his first start in the Majors this season.Source: New York Yankees
2 years agoNew York Yankees designated hitter and outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (foot) isn't in the team's lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Stanton is batting .214 with a .297 on-base percentage and 24 home runs in 371 plate appearances. Aaron Judge is starting at designated hitter instead and batting second with Estevan Florial entering the lineup as the team's center fielder. The 24-year-old is batting seventh against the Twins and right-handed starter Louie Varland. In 22 plate appearances with the Yankees this season, Florial has collected a hit, a walk and a stolen base. Fantasy managers in search of streaming help are probably better off looking elsewhere.Source: New York Yankees
2 years agoPittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the New York Mets on Wednesday. It will be a normal day of rest for the 25-year-old third baseman, but expect to see him return for the nightcap. In his return to the lineup on Tuesday, he went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a walk and a stolen base. With Hayes on the bench for Game 1, Rodolfo Castro will start at the hot corner and hit third against Mets right-hander Chris Bassitt. Castro is in a nice spot in the lineup to produce some counting stats for DFS managers. In just 153 at-bats this year, he's slashing .242/.305/.425 with six home runs, 12 RBI, 13 runs scored and four stolen bases.Source: Baseball Press
2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher David Robertson was credited with the win on Tuesday in the 3-2 victory over the Miami Marlins. It was his fourth win of the season. Robertson tossed a scoreless ninth frame while allowing one hit, walking two and striking out one. It wasn't the most pristine outing for the 37-year-old veteran, but he'll take the win regardless. He is now 4-2 on the year with a 2.51 ERA (4.09 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP, four saves and 18 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings pitched since joining the Phillies at the Aug. 2 trade deadline. Robertson has been solid in relief for Philadelphia, but he hasn't had a save since Aug. 24.Source: MLB.com
2 years agoArizona Diamondbacks closer Ian Kennedy blew another save chance in the 6-5 loss to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night. Kennedy allowed two earned runs on two hits while walking two and striking out none in two-thirds of an inning to blow his sixth save of the season. It was also the 37-year-old right-handed veteran's second straight blown save. He hasn't been good since taking over for demoted closer Mark Melancon, so perhaps the D-backs will make another change with the regular season coming to a close soon. Overall, Kennedy has a 3.60 ERA (4.62 FIP), a 1.36 WHIP, 10 saves and 40 strikeouts in 45 relief innings for Arizona. Don't be surprised if either Joe Mantiply or Melancon get the next crack at a save opportunity.Source: MLB.com
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy went off in the 6-3 win over the division-rival San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, three RBI and three runs scored to do most of the damage for the Blue. It was a welcomed performance from the 32-year-old, who hadn't homered in 13 previous contests. It's been a rough year for Muncy, as he's slashing .192/.321/.381, but he does have 18 home runs, 54 RBI, 58 runs scored and two stolen bases in 386 at-bats for the Dodgers. He's off to a nice start in September, though, going 6-for-20 (.300) with two homers, three RBI and four runs scored in five games. Both fantasy managers and the Dodgers are hoping he'll continue to heat up to close out September.Source: MLB.com
2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola reached the 200-strikeout mark on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. In 6 2/3 innings of work, Nola allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out 10 and walking only two. The outing was the 29-year-old's 16th quality start of the season, and it was his fifth time reaching double-digit strikeouts in 2022. He's now reached 200 strikeouts for the fourth straight season. Overall, Nola is 9-11 with a 3.35 ERA (2.64 FIP), a 0.97 WHIP, 200 K's and 24 walks in 177 1/3 innings pitched over 27 starts this year. Tuesday's outing was a nice rebound after he surrendered eight earned runs in just four innings his last time out against the Arizona Diamondbacks.Source: MLB.com
2 years agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher Tyler Wells (oblique) is being activated from the 15-day injured list and will start on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Wells only threw 31 pitches in his minor league rehab start, so there's a good chance he won't have a long leash against a tough opponent in his first start back. Fantasy managers would be wise to avoid Wells this evening. The 28-year-old has been solid for the O's in 2022, going 7-6 with a 3.90 ERA (4.39 FIP), a 1.11 WHIP, 68 strikeouts and 23 walks in 94 2/3 innings over his 20 starts in his second major league season. However, his 17.8 percent strikeout rate has left a lot to be desired in fantasy leagues.Source: MASN Sports - Roch Kubatko
2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (hand) is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Marte was hit by a pitch on his right hand on Tuesday and is undergoing tests, but skipper Buck Showalter said, "so far, so good." It appears that the 33-year-old has avoided any structural damage to his hand, but don't be surprised if he misses both games of the doubleheader on Wednesday. For now, fantasy managers should consider Marte to be day-to-day. With Marte sidelined, Tyler Naquin is starting in right field and batting seventh against Pirates right-hander Duane Underwood Jr. Naquin has been much better against righties in 2022 and has 10 home runs in 84 games while hitting .240 on the year. He'll be a deep DFS sleeper on Wednesday.Source: Baseball Press
2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer (oblique) is going on the 15-day injured list and won't make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Miami Marlins. Scherzer had to be pulled early from his last start on Saturday with what manager Buck Showalter called fatigue in his left side. The good news is that Scherzer isn't very concerned and expects to be ready to go when his 15 days are up. Lefty David Peterson is likely to re-enter the rotation with Scherzer temporarily sidelined. The 38-year-old Scherzer has been a must-start in fantasy in his first year in New York, going 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA (2.53 FIP), a 0.92 WHIP, 153 strikeouts and 23 walks in 127 2/3 innings over 20 starts.Source: MLB.com - Anthony DiComo
